The Client Pathways Specialist is responsible for conducting comprehensive intake and assessment activities to identify Job Seeker strengths, needs, barriers, and employment goals. This role determines appropriate service pathways by applying standardized assessment tools, policy guidance, and professional judgment to support informed, individualized Action Planning.
Using a structured, client-centred approach, the Client Pathways Specialist ensures assessments are completed consistently, accurately, and in compliance with contractual and policy requirements.
What You'll Do:
Intake & Assessment
- Conduct comprehensive intake and assessment activities to gather information on Job Seeker strengths, needs, barriers, and employment goals.
- Use motivational interviewing techniques to support engagement, explore readiness, and encourage active participation in the assessment process.
- Apply the Assessments Policy and the Compass Assessment Factors Handbook to guide all assessment activities.
- Review existing assessments where available and determine whether additional or updated assessments are required.
Standardized Assessments
- Administer the Employment Readiness Assessment (ERA) for Stream C Job Seekers who do not have a recent ERA on file and review recent ERAs where available.
- Conduct the Disability Employment Readiness Assessment (DERA) for DES Job Seekers using the standardized, province-wide tool to evaluate the impact of disability on employment goals and functional capacity (not medical ability).
- Identify when specialized or additional assessments are required and coordinate referrals accordingly.
Pathway Determination & Planning
- Use assessment outcomes to inform individualized Action Plans and recommend appropriate programs, services, and service pathways.
- Clearly articulate assessment findings and pathway recommendations to Job Seekers and internal teams.
- Support smooth handoffs to Service Navigators and other service staff following pathway determination.
Documentation & Compliance
- Accurately document assessment results, recommendations, and pathway decisions in the case management system.
- Ensure all assessment practices meet contractual, policy, and compliance requirements.
- Maintain high standards of data quality, accuracy, and confidentiality.
- Support audits, reviews, and quality assurance activities related to assessment and pathway decisions.
What You'll Bring:
Required
- Diploma or degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Disability Studies, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience conducting client assessments, intake, or case management in employment services, workforce development, or community-based programs.
- Strong knowledge of strengths-based, trauma-informed, and motivational interviewing approaches.
- Demonstrated experience administering standardized assessment tools.
- Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with electronic case management systems.
Preferred
- Experience administering ERA, DERA, or similar employment readiness assessments.
- Familiarity with policy-driven assessment frameworks and compliance requirements.
- Training in motivational interviewing or assessment-based service planning.
- Experience supporting individuals with complex or multi-dimensional barriers.
