About Sienci Labs At Sienci Labs, we build CNC machines and tools that make it easy and affordable for people to create amazing things. From hobbyists and educators to small businesses, we support a vibrant and growing maker community around the world. We're a small, fast-paced, and hands-on team that thrives on solving real-world problems through design, engineering, and experimentation.
About the Role: We're looking for a mechanically inclined, hands-on engineer who loves to build and tinker. In this role, you'll take the lead on designing and fabricating jigs, fixtures, and custom tools to support our assembly and production processes. You'll also help ensure the quality and consistency of parts—whether they're made in-house or supplied by external vendors.
If you’re someone who likes turning ideas into real, usable things, knows your way around CAD, and enjoys solving problems in a workshop setting, we want to hear from you.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Inspect incoming parts from suppliers and verify that they meet our quality standards
- Contact suppliers regarding quality issues and address them
- Collaborate with our assembly and production teams to identify bottlenecks and come up with tooling solutions to make things smoother and faster
- Organizing workstations, designing and creating custom workstations dedicated for tasks
- Create and maintain 3D models and detailed drawings for production use
- Operate and maintain 3D printers, CNC equipment, and other shop tools
- Oversee the production of in-house parts to make sure everything meets our specs and works the way it should
- Work with vendors to resolve quality issues and help improve manufacturability
- Keep documentation up-to-date for all your designs and revisions
- Prototype and iterate quickly—we move fast, and so should our tools
What We’re Looking For:
- A degree or diploma in mechanical engineering or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience)
- Solid experience with CAD (OnShape preferred) and engineering drawings
- Comfortable working with 3D printers, mills, lathes, and general shop tools
- Familiarity with inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.) and basic quality control
- Good understanding of metrology instruments
- Strong mechanical intuition and a knack for figuring out how to make things better
- A self-starter with a practical mindset and a love for solving problems hands-on
- Clear communication and the ability to work closely with a small, interdisciplinary team
Nice to Have:
- Experience working in a startup or manufacturing environment
- Exposure to CNC machines (especially hobbyist-level machines like the LongMill)
- Interest in open-source hardware or DIY maker culture
- Experience with pneumatics, electronics, or automation is a plus
Why Work at Sienci Labs? You’ll be part of a small team with a big impact. At Sienci Labs, your work directly affects how thousands of people make things every day. We believe in practical engineering, open ideas, and getting our hands dirty to make cool stuff happen. Plus, you’ll get access to all kinds of tools, projects, and opportunities to keep building your skills and creativity.
