Job Description
We are currently seeking an experienced and safety-focused Heavy Equipment Operator to join our construction team in Grimsby, Ontario. The ideal candidate will have 3–4 years of experience operating heavy equipment on civil construction and underground utility projects within a unionized environment.
The successful applicant will be responsible for operating excavators, loaders, bulldozers, and other heavy machinery safely and efficiently while supporting site operations and project timelines.
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment including excavators, loaders, bulldozers, skid steers, and backhoes
- Perform excavation, grading, trenching, backfilling, and material handling
- Support underground utility installation projects including sewer, storm, and watermain work
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance checks
- Work safely around underground utilities and construction crews
- Follow site safety regulations, union standards, and company procedures
- Read and understand site plans, grades, and locates
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and crew members
Requirements
- 3–4 years of heavy equipment operating experience
- Experience in civil construction and underground utility projects
- Previous unionized construction experience preferred
- Valid heavy equipment operating certifications or training
- Knowledge of excavation safety and site operations
- Valid Ontario driver’s license (DZ license is an asset)
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Strong work ethic and reliability
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating GPS-equipped machinery
- Working at Heights certification
- WHMIS certification
- First Aid/CPR certification
- Experience with sewer and watermain installation projects
