POSITION OVERVIEW
The primary role of the Maintenance Apprentice is to assist in all aspects of Maintenance and Production as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Maintain the egg-grading machine to ensure it is in good, safe working order for continuous production.
· React promptly to problems with the machine, resolving breakdowns quickly and efficiently.
· Perform preventative maintenance designed to keep down-time to a minimum, ensuring there is an adequate supply of spares to replace broken or worn-out machine parts.
· Perform inventory and clean-up for all parts and tools to eliminate the possibility of contamination (fluids, grease etc.).
· Monitor the egg grading machine, visually inspecting components while running and troubleshooting any problems that are detected.
· Document and report any maintenance-related conditions that could compromise food safety.
· Communicate production-maintenance concerns with Machine Operators, Supervisors, and/or Managers.
· Ensure contractors comply with outside contractor sign-off.
· Attend all required training sessions and scheduled meetings.
· Assist colleagues as necessary.
· Live by the company’s mission, vision, and values.
· Build and maintain positive working relationships with all levels of staff.
· Other duties assigned by the Maintenance Lead or Maintenance Manager/Supervisor.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
· Grade 12 education with strong English (written and verbal) and mathematical skills.
· Trade license, certificate or actively enrolled in an apprenticeship program required.
· Equipment Operator’s Certification to operate forklift and pallet jack considered an asset.
· Experience servicing and maintaining processing and packaging line equipment in a production environment considered an asset.
· Experience using computer applications and programs.
· Ability to weld considered an asset.
· A strong mechanical aptitude and skilled at troubleshooting machinery.
· Strong communication skills: ability to provide clear, concise general instructions for team effectiveness.
· Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently with little supervision.
· Ability to follow set procedures and efficiently and effectively prioritize work.
· Analytical problem solving required (observing the problem, deciding the cause, and then working out the most effective way to resolve it).
· Ability to react quickly to problems as they arise to minimize production down time.

· Work in compliance with divisional and legislative health, safety and environmental procedures.
· Refrain from removing or altering safety devices or guarding unless hazardous energies are controlled through lockout-tagout methods.
· Report any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts.
· Report defect in any equipment or protective device.
· Ensure that the required protective equipment is used for the assigned tasks.
· Participate in all required health, safety and environmental training.
· Report any accidents/incidents to supervisor.
· Assist in investigating accidents/incidents.
· Refrain from engaging in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct.
SWP (Safe Work Procedures)
Pre-Operation
1. Inspect required PPE and replace if necessary
2. Put on all required PPE
3. Inspect machinery and mobile equipment for functionality and operational safety mechanisms
During Operation
1. Practice proper lifting techniques
2. Take frequent breaks in accordance with company policy/procedures
3. Workers must not be impaired by alcohol, drugs, or other causes
4. Workers must be aware of first aid locations
5. Workers must be aware of fire extinguisher locations and operating procedures
Post-Operation
1. Ensure equipment (PPE), machinery, and mobile equipment is fully disengaged, cleaned, stored, and maintained appropriately

Pay: $32.05-$42.55 per hour
