The Chris Rose Therapy Centre for Autism in Kamloops, British Columbia is looking for staff to work in our Community Inclusion Program. We are mainly hiring for relief (on-call) shifts, but part-time hours may also be available.
This program supports adults aged 19 and older with autism spectrum disorder. They are connected with CLBC. Each person has their own personal goals, and we create a program just for them.
You will work one-on-one with an adult. There is very little group work.
What You Will Do
- Spend time with the person in the community, not in an office
- Help with activities such as:
- Swimming
- Crafts or cooking
- Outdoor activities
- Sensory therapy
- Drive the person to and from activities using your own car
This is not a desk job. You will work directly with the person all day.
Personal Care and Support
Each person has a personal care plan and a behaviour plan.
Your job may include:
- Helping with toileting
- Supporting the person during behaviour challenges
- Being calm and supportive during difficult moments
Most of the day is spent out in the community, not in one building.
Pay and Benefits
- Starting pay is $24.83 per hour
- Pay will increase after the probation period
- Mileage and petty cash expenses are reimbursed

Main Responsibilities
- Work one-on-one (or sometimes in a small group) with an adult with autism spectrum disorder
- Help them work toward their personal goals
- Keep all personal information private and confidential
- Drive the person to activities safely
Requirements
- Experience working with autism is preferred
- Must pass a Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector)
- Must have valid First Aid
- Must be 19 years or older
- Must have a valid BC driver’s license
- Must have a reliable car for transporting the person
If you have completed at least a 1 year post-secondary Certificate with at least 20 hours of child development experience (examples include Teaching Assistant/Teachers Aide Certification, School and Community Support Certification, Human Services Certification and Early Childhood Education Certification), you would also be able to work relief hours in our School-Based Program which works with school-aged children kindergarten through grade 7.

- This position requires you to transport the person(s) you work with in your own vehicle while working (there are reimbursement packages). What type of vehicle do you drive?
- One of the activities we do with the individuals we work with is swim therapy, where the staff is in the water as well as the person(s) they are working with. What are your swimming skills?
- We are open Monday through Friday. Shifts in our community inclusion program can start as early as 7:45 AM and end as late as 6:00 PM. What is your availability?
- We also have a School-Based Program working with children aged kindergarten through grade 7. This program requires staff to have completed at least a 1 year post-secondary Certificate with at least 20 hours of child development experience. If you would be interested in working in that program as well, please let us know what certificate program you completed that qualifies? (This education is not required for the community inclusion program working with adults 19+. It is only needed to work with those under 19 in our school-based program.)
