Job Title: Senior Accounts Payable Specialist

Position Summary
Goodstoney First Nation is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accounts Payable Specialist to lead the full-cycle accounts payable function within our Finance team. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely processing of invoices and payments while maintaining compliance with internal controls, policies, and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the financial integrity of the organization and contributing to a collaborative and efficient work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the full-cycle accounts payable process, including invoice intake, coding, approvals, and payment processing
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of vendor invoices and employee expense claims
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
- Maintain strong working relationships with vendors and internal departments
- Prepare and process electronic funds transfers (EFTs), cheques, and other payment methods
- Support month-end and year-end close activities, including accruals and reporting
- Complete monthly credit card reconciliations and ensure all transactions are properly recorded and supported
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and applicable regulations
- Maintain strict confidentiality and uphold the integrity of all financial records and sensitive information
- Support internal and external audit processes by preparing required documentation and reports
- Provide guidance and support to junior accounts payable staff, as required
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and workflow
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the Finance department and organizational needs
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounts payable experience, including senior or lead responsibilities
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and accounts payable best practices
- Experience with Xyntax or similar accounting/ERP systems
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills
- Effective communication and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Assets
- Experience working with First Nations organizations or within the public sector
- Knowledge of Indigenous governance and financial practices
