Académie de la Capitale (Acadecap International School) is a private school in Ottawa West for JK to Grade 12. In the summer, we offer a variety of camps including AcadeCamp Kinder, AcadeCamp, AcadeCoders JR, and AcadeCoders. All campers and coders participate in daily AcadeCamp Athletiks activities.
We are looking to hire summer 2 camp counselor(s) for our coding and game development camps this summer:
- one AcadCODER JR counselor for children ages 8 to 10, and
- one AcadeCODERS counselor for children 11 and up
We are looking for a fun and engaging Camp Counselor to further develop and deliver our camp programmes. Our ideal candidate would be well-versed in programming and digital creation tools, particularly Tinkercad, Scratch, Piskel, Pivot, CodePen, Python, Raspberry Pi, and platforms such as Godot and Blender. As this position is made possible through the Canada Summer Jobs Program, applicants must be under 30 years of age and either a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
This is a full time, contract position for 9 weeks.
The camp will run for 8 weeks, from June 22 to August 14, 2026. Training and planning dates are June 17, 18 & 19 and August 18 and 19 are for packing and organizing camp materials and spaces.
Requirements:
- Programming knowledge prerequisites: Programming and digital creation tools such as Scratch, CodePen (HTML/CSS, JavaScript), Python, and game or design platforms (e.g., Godot, Blender, Tinkercad), as well as hardware projects (e.g., Raspberry Pi).
- Willingness to research and learn skills based on weekly themes
- Strong software, hardware/electronics knowledge
- Perform a variety of daily tasks as assigned by the camp coordinator including but not limited to: attendance, supervision during drop-off and pick-up, meal service and supervision.
- Understand and implement Académie de la Capitale's rules, policies, safety guidelines and practices.
- Help maintain a safe, sanitary and organized environment for coders and staff.
- Be alert to campers' needs and provide assistance when required.
- Be organized and punctual
- Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) issued within the last 6 months.
- First Aid and CPR training
- Must be 18 and older. Grade 12, College and University students are encouraged to apply
- Previous experience working with children/youth
Responsabilities:
- Ensure the well-being and safety of all the children under your care
- Knowledgeable in programming, game design and/or animation; familiarity with various pedagogical approaches
- Teach coding and game design workshops to children ages 8 and up in a classroom setting, deliver core camp activities developed by the camp coordinator
- Lead recreation and other programme activities including outdoor physical games, board and card games, computer based activities and off-campus trips
- Assist with the set-up and break down of camp
- Perform a variety of daily tasks as assigned by the camp coordinator including but not limited to: attendance, supervision during drop-off and pick-up, meal service and supervision
- Understand and implement Académie de la Capitale's rules, policies, safety guidelines and practices
- Help maintain a safe, sanitary and organized environment for campers and staff
- Be alert to campers needs and provide assistance when required
- Teach: technology in the classroom and life-skills outside of the classroom.
- Mentor: build confidence, knowledge, responsibility and social adeptness in kids and teens
