Job Summary
We are looking for a dependable, organized, and hands-on Assistant Manager to support day-to-day operations in a busy cafeteria environment.
This is a dual-focused role that balances approximately 70% floor/kitchen execution and 30% administrative management. The ideal candidate is not just a coordinator but a leader who is ready to step onto the line, pick up a knife, and work alongside the team during peak hours.
This position requires high energy, flexibility, and strong leadership in a fast-paced environment while helping maintain a healthy and sustainable work balance for the team.
Core Role Breakdown
- 70% Hands-on Floor & Kitchen Operations: Active food preparation, line cooking, multitasking during rush hours, maintaining service speed, and leading by example on the floor.
- 30% Administrative Management: Staff scheduling, inventory tracking, team communication, email correspondence, and reporting.
Responsibilities
- Lead by example on the floor, actively supporting the kitchen team during peak hours (including meal preparation, cooking, and high-speed line work).
- Manage and prioritize daily operational tasks efficiently to ensure smooth kitchen and front-of-house (FOH) flow.
- Assist with staff scheduling, labor coordination, and daily team communication.
- Support hiring, onboarding, and practical skills training for new team members.
- Help maintain high standards for food safety, kitchen hygiene, and guest satisfaction.
- Assist with inventory counts, ordering, and administrative organization.
- Handle customer service issues and operational bottlenecks promptly under pressure.
- Assist with email correspondence, administrative tasks, and compliance reporting.
- Support opening and closing procedures of the cafeteria.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in a restaurant, hospitality, or fast-paced food service environment preferred.
- Strong hands-on cooking skills with a fast work pace and excellent knife skills (Prep & Line work are essential).
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize daily tasks independently.
- Supervisory or leadership experience considered a strong asset.
- Ability to multitask, problem-solve, and stay calm under pressure.
- Comfortable working actively in both Back-of-House (BOH) and Front-of-House (FOH) operations.
- Flexible availability, including weekends and seasonal business demands.
Seasonal Work Schedule
This role follows the seasonal nature of our operation.
- Summer months may require increased hours during peak business periods.
- Winter months are typically slower with a reduced workload.
- The schedule is managed with the goal of maintaining a balanced workload across the year.
Pay: $22.00-$28.00 per hour
