Summary:
The Construction Safety Officer Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction and practical training to participants enrolled in the Construction Safety Officer (CSO) Certificate Program. The instructor prepares learners for safety leadership roles within construction, industrial, maintenance, utilities, and infrastructure work environments by teaching occupational health and safety principles, regulatory compliance, hazard management, incident investigation, and workplace safety program administration. This role supports participant success through effective lesson planning, practical exercises, learner assessment, coaching, and mentorship.
Key Accountabilities:
- Deliver classroom, online, and hands-on instruction in occupational health and safety, construction safety practices, and regulatory compliance in alignment with approved course outlines and learning objectives
- Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, case studies, practical training activities, and learner evaluation tools
- Provide training on WorkSafeBC regulations, hazard identification and assessment, risk management, workplace inspections, incident reporting and investigations, emergency response procedures, and safety program management
- Facilitate interactive learning activities, workplace simulations, and practical safety scenarios based on real-world industry applications
- Guide learners in completing workplace safety documentation, incident reports, compliance requirements, and due diligence procedures
- Monitor participant progress and provide timely feedback, coaching, and learner support
- Evaluate learner performance and maintain accurate attendance, assessment, and training records
- Promote a safe, respectful, inclusive, and professional learning environment
- Maintain regular communication with WWSTC and program stakeholders regarding learner progress, attendance, and program delivery needs
- Ensure all training delivery complies with WorkSafeBC regulations, industry standards, and organizational policies
Required Qualifications:
- Diploma, certificate, or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of recent experience in occupational health and safety within construction, industrial, utilities, manufacturing, maintenance, or related industries
- Demonstrated experience conducting workplace inspections, hazard assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits
- Strong knowledge of the Workers Compensation Act (WCA), occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Regulations, and WorkSafeBC requirements
- Experience developing and implementing workplace safety programs, policies, and procedures
- Previous experience delivering training, facilitating workshops, or teaching adult learners.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Construction Safety Officer (CSO)
- National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation
- Occupational Health and Safety Certificate or Diploma
- COR Auditor certification
- Standard First Aid CPR-C and AED certification
- Experience working with Indigenous communities, workforce development programs, or employment training initiatives
