The pay range for the role is $62,600 to $104,300.
Job Scope:
Reporting to the Transportation Manager, Customs & Third party, this position plays a crucial role in ensuring the company's adherence to customs compliance, regulations and standards for the established dairy business. You will be responsible for managing customs documentation, monitoring trade regulations, working with carriers, customs brokers and various government agencies facilitating smooth cross-border operations. You will assist the Transportation Manager, Customs & Third party with the day to day import and export activities. Your attention to detail, analytical skills, and comprehensive understanding of customs procedures will be essential in minimizing risks and optimizing the company's international trade processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review customs documentation, including invoices, bills of lading, certificates of origin, and import/export declarations.
- Work with stakeholders to assign and maintain product classifications in the internal database and systems
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of required customs documents to government authorities.
- Maintain organized records of customs documentation and update databases accordingly.
- Support and monitor broker and carrier responses on missing information for shipment related queries
- Resolve day-to-da operational issues such as import valuation, classification, and adjustments
- Identify and implement compliance opportunities to participate in duty savings opportunities
- Create department work instructions and process improvements as needed
- Periodic audit of customs brokerage entries to validate entry accuracy, identify and address any compliance gaps
- Work with carriers and freight forwarders in requesting freight quotes to support business needs when required
- Process export documentation for outgoing shipments
- Stay up to date with international trade regulations, tariff classifications, and customs laws to ensure compliance.
- Monitor Tariff Classification, valuation, and rules of origin requirements
- Communicate changes in regulations to stakeholders
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address customs related issues and implement effective solutions.
- Monitor Air, Ocean and trucking industry changes and provide resolutions to import and export challenges.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years’ customs compliance, trade analysis, or related roles
- University degree or Collage diploma in international business, supply chain management, trade compliance or a related field
- CCS certification will be considered an asset.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data
- Understanding of customs regulations surrounding food import will be considered an asset.
- Understanding of import and export processes via all mode of transportation (Air, rail, ground, ocean)
- Proficiency in using customs related software and systems
- Excellent Telephone/Communication/People skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Ability to prioritize, set goals and accomplish tasks with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in MS Office
- Willingness to learn and acquire knowledge/understanding through study, instruction or experience
- Both a team builder and a team player
- Exceptional computer literacy skills
- Strong problem-solving skills.
