MICBA Forum Italia Community Services, operates a Supports for Daily Living Program
(SDL) offered at 155 & 195 Forum Drive, Mississauga. Our Supports for Daily Living Program
(SDL) enables seniors 65 and older to continue living independently in their apartment units by providing daily, pre-scheduled in-home personal support, housekeeping and attendant care services for a minimum of 1.5 hours per day, per resident. Our Assistive Living Program provides essential personal support services, homemaking services, security and reassurance services and care-co-ordination to seniors 65 and older; we are based in a 60 unit senior’s residence.
Our programs are funded and regulated by the MOHLTC via the Mississauga Halton LHIN.
Our programs are in operation 24/7/365 and delivered by Personal Support Workers free of charge to clients based on individual assessment.
MICBA Forum Italia Community Services is an accredited program by CARF.
Our Mission
We are dedicated to delivering assisted living services to seniors that inspire wellness, independence and a string sense of community.
Under the direction of the Program Director as Personal Support Worker you will:
- Support the organization’s mission, vision and values.
- Provide assistance with homemaking services such as: light housekeeping, essential paperwork and light meal preparation using Canada’s Food Guide while preparing special diets that support diabetic, low cholesterol and low fat living.
- Provide assistance with personal care such as: bathing/washing, mouth care, routine hand and foot care, hair care, preventative skin care (not wound care), transferring/positioning/turning, dressing/undressing, assistance with eating, toileting, range of motion exercises, escorting to medical appointments, medication reminders and/or assistance (pre-measured), vital sign monitoring and emergency response.
- Transport well and frail senior to medical appointments and social service related appointments and pick up supplies for the recreation and administrative departments
- Promotes Resident’s Rights and Responsibilities.
- Provide a current and perfect criminal background check (including working with vulnerable persons)
- As a member of a trans-disciplinary team, you will serve a high density low income, multicultural community.
- Has knowledge of wheelchair transportation, and mobility devices.
- Punctual at all times, able to stay on tight time frame of service schedule.
- Responsible for his/her actions.
- Knowledgeable of streets in Peel Region, or can use a GPS properly.
- Report any late arrivals and reasons.
- Involved in committees, teams and working groups to achieve the objectives and goals of the organization.
- Creates a comfortable and safe environment that provides opportunities for privacy, dignity, control and maintenance of personal lifestyle.
- Provides courteous service to the senior tenant and maintains both a professional and courteous approach when interacting with any member(s) of the public.
- Ensures that the necessary precautions/measures are taken to ensure driver, passenger and pedestrian safety.
- Assess driving hazards and anticipate “what if scenarios”
- Ensures that all laws that pertain to the operation of a motor vehicle (i.e. drive within speed limits, wear seatbelts, distracted driving)
- Comply with transportation cancellations by management when road weather conditions warrant.
- Ability to effectively handle any emergencies that may arise during the course of transportation or at any location when any of our senior resident(s) may be involved.
- Maintains company vehicle by providing, oil changes, fluid level, gas, car washes, etc.
- Report any accident or near miss incidents
- Accompanies the resident to appointments when needed.
- Adheres to the Occupational Health and Safety guidelines and Ontario traffic laws
- Reports any equipment and vehicle malfunctions to Program Director.
- Participate in the accreditation process as required.
- Maintain inventory of resources / supplies needed to fulfill duties.
- Maintains department statistics
- Create an atmosphere that encourages innovative ideas from the care team.
- Provide assistance with grocery shopping list to ensure healthy and appropriate choices for meals.
- Get involved in committees, teams and working groups to achieve the objectives and goals of the organization.
- Promote and provide health and safety.
- Assist residents with emotional, social, spiritual, intellectual and physical needs.
- Assist with resident activities and programs that promote socialization and leisure.
- Create an atmosphere that encourages innovative ideas from the care team.
The successful candidate will have:
- Successful completion of the Personal Support Worker course by diploma
- Preference will be given to candidates with Assistive Living and Supports for Daily
Living experience.
- Valid Onatrio Driver’s licence “G” license and insurance an asset.
- Satisfactory drivers abstract-it will be required at your own expense at time of hiring
- At least 5 years of driving experience, 1 year of which experience with a senior population.
- Available to work every other weekend
- Drivers must be comfortable using highway, tolls as required
- Knowledge of Mississauga streets, buildings and roads.
- Experience in dementia and chronic disease is an asset.
- Excellent client service skills.
- Experience using Point of Care system
- Good judgment, adaptability and flexibility.
- Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, organizational skills and empathy skills.
- Ability to work as an effective team member, willingness to help
- Current CPR and First Aid certification- it will be required at your own expense at the time of hiring.
- Perfect Criminal Police Check (including working with vulnerable persons) –it will be required at your own expense at the time of hiring
- Defensive Driving Certificate an asset.
- Can work independently.
- Strong communication, organization and motivational skills.
- Flexibility and enthusiasm.
- Include in resume additional courses or training related to working with seniors.
- Ability to speak Italian or Chinese an asset.
