Seeking a reliable and dedicated nurse for a long term 1:1 school nursing position caring for our 7 year old daughter with congenital myopathy. Homecare shifts available during school vacations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be in good standing with College of Nurses of Ontario, registered with RPNAO/ RNAO, have CPR/ First Aid, and obtain police vulnerable sector check.
- Experience with young children (professionally or personally).
- Willingness to learn and follow parents’ directions.
- Excellent communication skills and positive attitude.
Skills Needed:
- Tracheostomy: suctioning; cough assist; emergency trach changes; trach care.
- Ventilator: knowledge of Astral vent: circuit assembly/ problem solving; alarm trouble shooting; positioning
- Oxygen: use of oxygen tanks and concentrator.
- Enteral feeding via G-tube
- CPR and first aid for children.
Training:
- Experience with tracheostomy tube and mechanical ventilation
- Parents will provide training shifts in-home prior to the start of the school shifts.
- Training shifts are paid.
Pay:
- RPNs- $46/ hour RNs-$50/ hour
- weekly pay days
- Hired as independent contractors (no tax deductions)
Hours of Work:
- Shift starts at our home in Guelph, ride the bus to school with our daughter, spend the duration of the school day with her, ride the bus back with her after school and hand over care to a parent.
- Location is in Guelph at Paisley Road Public school.
- 7:45am-3:45 pm
- No weekends, evenings or holidays. One week off in March, 2 weeks off in December and 2 months off for summer vacation. Homecare shifts available during the summer.
- School shifts resume the following September
