Overview
G. Melo Excavating is seeking an experienced Excavator Operator to join our growing team. We are a heavy civil contractor specializing in underground servicing, site development, and earthworks throughout Cambridge and surrounding communities.
The successful candidate will have experience working on sewer, watermain, storm sewer, and site servicing projects and will take pride in operating equipment safely, efficiently, and with precision.
Projects are located throughout Cambridge and surrounding areas, typically within one hour of our Cambridge yard.
Responsibilities
- Operate excavators safely and efficiently on underground servicing and site development projects
- Excavate for sanitary sewer, storm sewer, watermain, catch basins, manholes, and related infrastructure
- Work closely with pipe crews and site supervisors to ensure work is completed safely and according to project specifications
- Perform trenching, grading, backfilling, and site preparation activities
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and report maintenance requirements
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Follow all company, client, and regulatory safety requirements
- Complete work in accordance with project schedules and quality expectations
Qualifications
- Experience operating excavators on sewer and underground servicing projects
- Strong understanding of grades, elevations, and trenching operations
- Ability to work safely around existing utilities and underground infrastructure
- Knowledge of construction safety requirements and safe excavation practices
- Valid Ontario Driver's Licence
- Ability to work effectively as part of a crew
- Reliable, safety-focused, and professional
Preferred Qualifications
- Membership with or eligibility for IUOE Local 793
- Experience with GPS machine control systems
- Experience operating additional heavy equipment including dozers, loaders, and graders
- AZ or DZ licence considered an asset

Pay: $41.00-$46.00 per hour
