TFS Manufacturing is looking for a reliable and hard-working Shop Helper / Forklift Operator to support our welding, fabrication, and shipping operations.
This is a hands-on production position. You will work alongside welders and production staff, helping with grinding and finishing, preparing parts, organizing work areas, moving material, and keeping production running efficiently.
This position will also be responsible for regularly loading and unloading trucks using a forklift. A minimum of 2 years of forklift operating experience is required.
Previous experience using angle grinders is also required for this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Load and unload trucks safely using a forklift
- Operate a forklift to move raw material, pallets, fabricated components, and completed assemblies throughout the facility
- Safely position and stage material for production and shipping
- Grind and clean welded assemblies using angle grinders
- Remove weld spatter and clean up finished welds
- Assist welders and production staff with day-to-day shop work
- Prepare and organize parts for welding and assembly
- Help position, hold, and clamp components during fit-up
- Set up and organize workstations
- Stage parts, fixtures, hardware, and components for upcoming jobs
- Use angle grinders, drills, hand tools, clamps, and other basic shop equipment
- Move material and completed assemblies throughout the shop
- Load and unload parts from workstations
- Keep production areas supplied with required parts and components
- Assist with assembly and other production operations once trained
- Assist with inspection, packaging, and preparation of outgoing shipments
- Organize work-in-process and completed parts
- Maintain clean and organized work areas
- Follow instructions from welders and supervisors
- Work safely and help the team meet daily production targets
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of forklift operating experience
- Must be confident loading and unloading trucks with a forklift
- Must be able to safely handle pallets, material, and fabricated assemblies
- Must have previous experience using angle grinders
- Must be comfortable grinding and finishing metal parts for extended periods
- Must understand the safe use of grinders and basic shop tools
- Must be able to work well with others as part of a team
- Must be able to follow instructions and communicate effectively with welders, supervisors, drivers, and other production staff
- Reliable and punctual
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
- Able to accurately use a tape measure
- Able to lift and move metal parts and assemblies
- Comfortable standing and working on your feet throughout the shift
- Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced production environment
- Able to work independently once trained
Assets
- Previous experience working in a similar manufacturing, welding, fabrication, or metalworking shop environment
- Previous shipping/receiving or material-handling experience
- Valid forklift certification
- Previous grinding or metal-finishing experience
- Experience assisting welders or fabricators
- Experience using hand and power tools
- Basic ability to read fabrication drawings
- Previous production or assembly experience
