The Thirsty Whippet is an independent British-inspired pub located at Lady Smith Manor in Dorchester, just 15 minutes from Sackville.
We’re looking for a friendly, reliable and energetic person to join our small team as a Bartender & Kitchen Assistant, helping both behind the bar and in our simple pub kitchen.
This could be a great fit for a university student looking for part-time work around their studies, but we welcome applications from anyone looking for a fun, varied part-time role.
We can offer approximately 10–25 hours per week depending on availability, primarily evenings and weekends, with the opportunity for additional shifts during busy periods, weddings and special events.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
- Provide warm, friendly and attentive service to our guests.
- Take orders and process payments accurately.
- Prepare and plate items from our pub menu.
- Keep the bar, kitchen and service areas clean, stocked and organized.
- Assist with opening and closing duties.
- Work alongside the team during busy pub services.
- Help with occasional weddings, special events and experiences at Lady Smith Manor.
- Be willing to jump in and help wherever needed during a shift.
No two weeks are exactly the same. Alongside regular pub shifts, there may also be opportunities to work weddings, themed events and other special experiences at Lady Smith Manor.

You should be:
- Reliable and punctual.
- Friendly and comfortable interacting with guests.
- Positive, proactive and willing to learn new skills.
- Happy working both behind the bar and in the kitchen.
- Comfortable working independently as well as part of a small team.
- Able to stay calm and organized during busy periods.
- Available for some evening and weekend shifts.
- Flexible to work occasional special events, with dates provided in advance.
- Able to reliably travel to our location in Dorchester.
Reliable transportation to Dorchester is required.
Experience & Qualifications
Previous bar, restaurant or hospitality experience is an asset, but we’re happy to train the right person.
Food Safety and Responsible Beverage Service certification are also assets. Bilingualism is welcome but not required.
Applicants must be 19 years of age or older due to the alcohol service requirements of the role.
Hours
This is a part-time position with approximately 10–25 hours per week, depending on your availability and the needs of the business.
We can offer some flexibility around schedules, making the role particularly suitable for someone balancing university or other commitments.
Additional hours may be available for the right person, particularly during events, weddings and busy periods.

Pay: $18.00 per hour
