Senior Steel Detailer
Weston Manufacturing Ltd. — Calgary, AB (with occasional/irregular time at our Fort Macleod, AB facility)
Weston Manufacturing is looking for an experienced Senior Steel Detailer to support our structural steel detailing, shop drawings, and spec building program. You'll work closely with our Preconstruction, Estimating, and Production teams to make sure detailing data is accurate and projects move from design to the shop floor without costly rework.
What you'll do:
- Build, maintain, and refine parts list data to support accurate, repeatable spec building estimates and production planning
- Flag discrepancies, gaps, or design conflicts early, before they affect estimating or production
- Prepare and review shop drawings, connection details, and fabrication documentation for in-house structural steel projects
- Ensure drawing packages are accurate, complete, and aligned with project specs and applicable codes
- Maintain organized drawing records and version control across active projects
- Work closely with Estimators to provide detailed take-offs and technical input for competitive, reliable estimates
- Participate in estimate reviews to flag detailing or fabrication risks that could affect pricing or schedule
- Liaise with Preconstruction, structural engineers, and Production to clarify design requirements and incorporate revisions
- Communicate design, detailing, or production conflicts in a timely manner
- Maintain detailing software and identify opportunities to improve parts list accuracy, detailing turnaround, and documentation consistency
- Stay current with structural steel detailing standards, software updates, and industry best practices
What you bring:
- 5+ years of experience in structural steel detailing, drafting, or a related technical role
- Proficiency with structural steel detailing software (e.g., Tekla Structures, SDS2, AutoCAD Advance Steel)
- Strong attention to detail, this role's output directly affects estimating and production accuracy
- Ability to read and interpret structural engineering drawings and specifications
- Clear, effective communication across multiple teams (Estimating, Preconstruction, Production)
- Diploma or degree in Drafting Technology, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related technical field (asset)
- Working knowledge of structural steel fabrication, connection details, and applicable codes and standards
