P&L CPA is a community-based accounting practice located in Burnaby, BC.
This is a permanent, part-time position, expected to start at 8 hours per week. This is ideal for an experienced accounting technician looking for flexibility and supplemental income.
You’ll be responsible for servicing our monthly bookkeeping clients. While P&L CPA operates remotely, one client does require on-site assistance near the 15th and 30th of each month (2 to 3 hours per session). You must be wiling to travel to this client’s site, near Holdom Skytrain Station, twice a month. Rest of the work will be performed remotely.
Your secondary responsibility will be preparing the trial balance for annual T2 clients using the clients’ accounting system (e.g. QBO, Xero, Wave) and possibly CaseWare Working Papers to hand-off to a CPA. Other duties may include preparing simple T1s for a CPA review.
You’ll be trained on and responsible for:
- Navigating QuickBooks Online
- Travelling to a client’s site and processing subcontractor payments 2x per month
- Processing payroll
- Posting payroll journal entries for clients who process their own payroll
- Processing AP
- Posting vendor invoices and matching bank payments against open AP
- Matching bank deposits against outstanding receivables
- Monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
- Non-profit accounting for externally restricted contributions for NPO clients
- Communicating with clients for follow-ups, document requests, and approvals.
- GST, PST, T4, T4A and T5018 filings
- WorkSafeBC filings
- Preparing trial balances for annual T2 clients
You will not be responsible for customer invoicing or AR collections. We do not provide such services.
In addition, you’ll be responsible for entering your time into QB Workforce. These hours will be used to process your bi-weekly payroll and assess efficiency. Each bookkeeping engagement does have budgeted hours, and you’re expected to hit certain targets after the first 3 months. You may schedule your monthly budgeted hours as necessary to meet certain deadlines. However, you must not work more than 8 hours per shift.
If desired, additional hours and responsibilities may be available after a 3-month probationary period.
Compensation and benefits:
- $22 to $24/hour, depending on experience
- Vacation at 4% of gross pay will be paid out with each paycheque and will increase as required under the BC Employment Standards Act
