Position Summary
We are seeking a warm, experienced, and dedicated ECE Director to lead our Pre-Kindergarten program. The ECE Director will provide leadership and oversight of the daily operations of the program while creating a nurturing, respectful, and developmentally appropriate Montessori environment where young children can grow in independence, confidence, and a love of learning.
The successful candidate will work closely with the school leadership team, educators, families, and support staff to ensure a high-quality early childhood program that reflects Montessori principles and meets applicable provincial early learning, licensing, health, and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and oversee the daily operation of the Pre-Kindergarten program and classroom.
Create and maintain a prepared, safe, orderly, and engaging Montessori environment.
Implement developmentally appropriate learning experiences based on Montessori philosophy and early childhood best practices.
Support children's social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and language development.
Observe and document children's progress, interests, needs, and developmental milestones.
Guide and mentor ECEs, ECE Assistants, and classroom support staff.
Provide clear direction regarding classroom routines, expectations, supervision, and responsibilities.
Maintain appropriate child-to-staff ratios and ensure proper supervision and safety practices.
Establish positive and respectful relationships with children and families.
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding children's development, progress, and classroom experiences.

Develop and maintain classroom documentation, attendance records, incident reports, care plans, and other required records.

Support individualized strategies for children with diverse learning and developmental needs, in collaboration with the school's Inclusive Education team where applicable.

Ensure compliance with applicable provincial childcare licensing regulations, school policies, health and safety standards, and Montessori practices.

Promote a positive, respectful, inclusive, and collaborative school culture.

Participate in staff meetings, professional development, school events, and program planning.

Work collaboratively with the Principal and school administration on program development, staffing, policies, and continuous improvement.

Perform other duties reasonably related to the position and the effective operation of the Pre-Kindergarten program.
Qualifications & Requirements

Valid Early Childhood Educator (ECE) certification/registration recognized in BC province.

Knowledge of applicable provincial childcare licensing and health and safety requirements.
- Ability to work collaboratively with educators, administrators, families, and external professionals.
- Satisfactory criminal record/vulnerable sector screening and other employment requirements applicable to the position.

Current First Aid/CPR certification, as required.

Montessori training or experience in a Montessori environment is an advantage.
