Job Description: Site Sanitation Technician
Reports To: Production Supervisor
Location: Toronto, Ontario
Position Type: Full-Time
Job Purpose
The Site Sanitation Technician is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and regulatory compliance of the entire facility, spanning both uncontrolled corporate office areas and highly controlled, ISO-classified medical device production floors. The successful candidate will ensure that the facility passes Health Canada and ISO 13485 inspections by adhering strictly to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and preventing cross-contamination between administrative and cleanroom environments.
Key Responsibilities
1. Controlled Environments & Production Floors (GMP Duties) — approx. 50-60% of time
- Sanitization Protocols: Execute daily, weekly, and monthly deep cleaning of the production floors and cleanrooms using validated sanitizing agents (e.g., Isopropyl Alcohol, sporicides) according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Gowning Discipline: Adhere strictly to cleanroom gowning and personal hygiene requirements (wearing hairnets, frocks, gloves, booties, and no makeup/jewelry/nail polish) prior to entering production zones.
- Good Documentation Practices (GDP): Accurately fill out, sign, and date sanitation logs and environmental charts immediately following cleaning tasks to ensure full regulatory traceability for Health Canada inspectors.
- Line Clearance & Waste Management: Empty hazardous and non-hazardous production waste lines, ensuring no accumulation of debris disrupts the manufacturing line clearance.
- Material Transfer: Properly wipe down and decontaminate all cleaning supplies, tools, and inventory moving from uncontrolled storage into the controlled production environment.
2. Office & Common Areas (Facilities Maintenance) — approx. 40-50% of time
- Office Sanitization: Vacuum, dust, and sanitize office workstations, conference rooms, lobbies, and administrative spaces.
- Amenities Care: Clean and restock facility breakrooms, kitchens, and restrooms daily.
- Waste Disposal: Collect and dispose of standard office trash and recycling.
- Inventory Control: Monitor and request replenishments for standard building cleaning supplies and cleanroom-approved garments/wipes.
3. Cross-Contamination Prevention (Critical Audit Metric)
- Segregation of Tools: Maintain strict physical separation of all cleaning equipment. Absolutely no mops, cloths, buckets, or vacuum cleaners used in the office or restroom areas are to enter the production floor or cleanroom zones.
Qualifications & Education
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: 1–2 years of experience in industrial cleaning, janitorial work, or facilities maintenance. Experience in a regulated environment (Medical Device, Pharmaceutical, or Food Manufacturing) is highly preferred.
- GMP/ISO Awareness: Basic understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) or willingness to undergo immediate, mandatory training.
- Attention to Detail: Excellent fine-motor skills and the ability to strictly follow complex, step-by-step written instructions (SOPs) without cutting corners.
- Language Skills: Strong verbal and written English skills required for reading technical manuals, safety data sheets (SDS), and filling out legal regulatory documents.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods (8+ hour shifts).
- Comfortable working in a cleanroom environment with restrictive garments for several hours a day.
- Ability to lift up to 20 kg (45 lbs) occasionally.
