Job Title: Food Distribution Facilitator
Reports to: Community Programs Coordinator
Role: Facilitate, oversee, and implement all aspects of all Food Security Initiatives and other assigned community food security programs in conjunction with the Community Programs Coordinator. Plays a vital role in supporting equitable food access for community members.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the delivery of all Food Security initiatives (Food Distribution Program, BC Farmers Market Nutrition Program, Get Growing! Victoria, Gift Card Distribution, Cold Star, Emergency Food Program, After School Snack Program)
- Provides training and supervision of volunteers in the above-mentioned programs, including scheduling, and covering shifts as required
- Approaches project work utilizing community development, food justice, and other best practice strategies.
- Assemble and distribute food hampers according to program guidelines and client needs.
- Maintain accurate records of hamper distribution activities
- Support 10-12 intercultural food, gardening, education, and community development initiatives with a focus on capacity building, connection and food justice per year
- Ensure safe handling and storage of perishable and non – perishable food items
- Monitor inventory levels and adjust as needed
- Seek, build, and sustain relationships with a range of stakeholders (residents, partner organizations, etc.) to advance community food security and food justice goals
- Maintains accurate records and provides regular verbal and written activity and statistical reports regarding food security programs
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to ongoing improvements in food distribution systems
- Attend regular Food Hub meetings and contribute to local collective food initiatives
- Actively participates in community events such as Quadra Village Day, community dinners, annual Halloween event, National Indigenous Peoples Day, etc.
- Responds to general inquiries, by phone and in person, and shares in the physical work of maintaining the Centre
- Participates in ensuring a safe environment, observing potential hazards and either providing a remedy or reporting to the appropriate person
- Performs other related duties as required by the Community Programs Coordinator and/or Executive Director
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Social Work, Community Development, Child & Youth Care, or comparable degree) or two years experience working in food systems
- An understanding of youth and community contending with issues such as poverty, food insecurity, mental health problems, and social isolation
- Food Safe & Standard First Aid
- Commitment to anti-oppressive, decolonial, and anti-racist practice
- Ability to work with integrity and respect in a diverse, multi-cultural community centre
- Preference with lived experience, knowledge, and/or awareness of First Nations populations and diverse cultures
- A clear vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check is required.
- Demonstrated ability in, and sensitivity and commitment to working with diverse populations
- Ability to work productively in an unstructured environment with frequent interruptions
- Capable of working independently
- Friendly and approachable demeanour
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve, network and provide connection for the community
- Proficient in basic computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets and internet usage
- Record keeping skills
- Strong organizational skills
Benefits and Remuneration:
- $24.15 per hour
- 6% vacation (either paid out each period or accrued for 3 weeks paid vacation time)

Hours of Work:
- 12 hours per week, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, with occasional evenings when required
- Closed on Statutory Holidays
