Job Overview
You are responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction projects, encompassing materials, labour, equipment, and subcontractor costs. Working closely with project managers, clients, and vendors. You provide essential support during bid preparation and project planning phases. The successful candidate plays a critical role in securing new business opportunities and ensuring the long-term profitability of awarded projects. This position requires a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven construction environment.
Duties·
- Prepare preliminary cost estimates based on conceptual drawings for pre-construction feasibly analysis (Class D Budgets).
- Review and analyze project drawings, specifications, and tender documents to understand project scope and requirements.
- Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and comprehensive cost estimates covering labour, materials, and equipment. (Class B Budgets).
- Solicit, review, and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure competitiveness and accuracy.
- Prepare and submit formal bid packages, proposals, and tender submissions in accordance with client requirements.
- Conduct site visits and assessments as required to inform estimate development and identify site-specific conditions.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients throughout the pre-construction phase to align estimates with project goals.
- Maintain and update historical cost data, unit pricing databases, and estimating templates to support continuous improvement.
- Analyze project risks and incorporate appropriate contingencies and allowances into all estimates.
- Participate in bid review meetings, internal estimate reviews, and value engineering discussions.
- Track awarded projects and support the structured handoff of project information to the project management team.
- Monitor industry pricing trends, material cost fluctuations, and market conditions to inform estimate accuracy.
- Ensure all estimates comply with company standards, client requirements, and applicable codes and regulations.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and industry contacts.
- Assist in the preparation of change order pricing and budget revisions on active projects as required.
Requirements
- Minimum 3–5 years of estimating experience within the construction industry.
- Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, Building Development Technology, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience with commercial, industrial, or civil construction projects is strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills with a high degree of numerical accuracy.
- Excellent attention to detail and proven ability to manage multiple concurrent deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including negotiation with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Ability to read, interpret, and take-off from construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Working knowledge of local construction codes, regulations, and industry standards.
- Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in Excel for cost modelling and reporting.
- Proficiency in industry estimating software (e.g. Planswift, Bluebeam, or similar platforms).

Working Conditions
- Primarily office-based work environment with occasional site visits required.
- May require flexibility in working hours during peak bid and tender periods.

Pay: $90,000.00-$130,000.00 per year
