The Manager of Fleet leads the City of Nelson’s fleet operations, ensuring vehicles, heavy equipment, and transit assets are maintained safely, efficiently, and ready to support essential municipal services. This role provides strategic leadership in fleet maintenance, budgeting, procurement, and regulatory compliance while driving operational excellence across the organization.
Reporting to the Director of Municipal Operations, The Manager of Fleet leads a skilled team, fosters a strong safety culture, and supports continuous improvement initiatives that enhance service delivery, team performance, and the long-term sustainability of the City’s fleet operations.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current and valid BC Certificate of Trades Qualification in Mechanics
- 3-5 years progressive-related experience in administration and supervision in a municipal
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The ideal candidate is a collaborative and safety-focused leader with strong technical knowledge of fleet maintenance, vehicle inspection, and mechanical systems, including hydraulic and hydrostatic equipment. They possess excellent planning, organizational, and problem-solving abilities, enabling them to effectively manage competing priorities, budgets, projects, and staff. Strong communication skills are essential, with the ability to present technical information to a variety of audiences, build productive working relationships, and support operational decision-making. This role requires sound judgment, a commitment to employee development, and a solid understanding of municipal operations, WorkSafeBC regulations, and industry best practices to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable fleet services.

COMPENSATION: $108,990 - $121,100
LOCATION: On-Site
WORK DAYS: Monday - Friday
HOURS: 7:00 AM - 3:15 PM
