Comco is currently seeking an experienced Pipe Loader Operator to join our Edmonton team.
SHIFT: Monday to Friday, 9:30 am to 6 pm.
If you have at least two years of experience working in a pipe yard operating a wheel loader (such as John Deere 544K) and safely handling pipe, we'd like to hear from you.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Pipe Yard Foreman, the Pipe Loader Operator is responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient movement, storage, receiving, and shipping of carbon steel pipe within the yard. This position plays a key role in ensuring customer orders are completed accurately while maintaining Comco's safety, quality, and operational standards.
The successful candidate will also learn to cut and bevel pipe as required and have the opportunity to operate a grader to assist with yard maintenance.
Please note - This is a safety-sensitive position. The applicant offer the position must successfully complete a pre-employment Occupational Health Assessment and pass a drug test (including cannabis).
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate a wheel loader to move and store carbon steel pipe.
- Pick, package, and tags pipe for customer orders accurately and efficiently.
- Load and unload pipe from trailers by use of John Deere 544K wheel loader.
- Record heat numbers and manufacturers information from product.
- Cut and bevel pipe to customer and work order specifications.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe pipe yard.
- Report inventory shortages, damaged product, and order discrepancies.
- Assist with inventory counts and general yard duties.
- Learn and operate a grader, as required, to assist with yard maintenance activities including leveling and maintaining yard surfaces, spreading gravel, and snow removal.
- Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance concerns.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating a wheel loader, preferably in pipe yard or steel distribution environment.
- Experience handling pipe with heavy equipment;
- Valid Class 5 Alberta license.
- Clean driver's abstract.
- Experience operating forklifts and other material handling equipment is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of safe lifting and handling techniques;
- Basic math skills.
- Ability to regularly lift and move materials weighing 50lbs.
