Job Summary
Cranston Master Builder is looking for a talented and detail-oriented Residential Drafter / Architectural Designer to join our growing team.
We are looking for someone who is technically strong in residential drafting, understands building codes and municipal/developer requirements, and has a genuine interest in home design, colour, finishes, and architectural concepts.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed residential construction drawings and working drawings
- Draft floor plans, elevations, sections, roof plans, site plans and construction details
- Prepare drawings for development permits, building permits and architectural approvals
- Coordinate and submit drawings for approval with municipalities, developers and architectural review committees
- Ensure plans comply with applicable Alberta Building Code, municipal bylaws and development requirements
- Review and incorporate developer guidelines, architectural controls and community requirements
- Coordinate revisions and address comments from municipalities, developers, architects and other consultants
- Work closely with the construction, sales and design teams to ensure drawings are practical, accurate and buildable
- Assist with residential design concepts, including exterior elevations, colour schemes, materials and architectural details
- Maintain accurate drawing files and ensure revisions are properly documented
- Identify potential design, code or construction issues before plans move into production
Requirements
- Proficient in AutoCAD — required
- Previous experience with residential drafting and construction drawings
- Strong knowledge of the Alberta Building Code
- Understanding of municipal building and development requirements, particularly within the Edmonton region
- Experience with developer architectural guidelines and approval processes
- Experience preparing and submitting drawings for municipal and architectural approvals
- Strong understanding of residential construction methods and building practices
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and construction drawings
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Strong communication and coordination skills
- Experience with new home construction is highly preferred
Design Skills
We are looking for someone who doesn't just know how to draft, but understands design.
An interest and strong eye for:
- Residential architecture and current design trends
- Exterior elevations and curb appeal
- Colour and material combinations
- Interior/exterior design concepts
- Architectural details and proportions
- Creating homes that are both functional and visually appealing
Experience with 3D modelling, rendering or other design software would be considered an asset.
Salary - based on years of experience

Pay: $20.00-$28.00 per hour
