Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Permit Coordinator to oversee the permitting process for residential construction projects. The ideal candidate will facilitate smooth communication between contractors, local authorities, and project teams to ensure all necessary permits are obtained efficiently and in compliance with regulations. This role is vital in maintaining project timelines, quality standards, and regulatory adherence within the residential construction industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and submit permit applications for residential construction projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with City of Edmonton and surrounding municipalities.
- Track permit progress, inspection schedules, and approval timelines; proactively communicate updates to internal teams and customers.
- Coordinate with municipal departments, inspectors, engineers, and site supervisors to resolve issues that may delay approvals or inspections.
- Maintain organized records including drawings, plot plans, inspection reports, and permit documentation.
- Support customers by answering permit‑related questions and providing clear guidance throughout the construction process.
- Monitor regulatory changes and ensure documentation aligns with current building codes, energy‑efficiency standards, and municipal requirements.
- Assist construction and drafting teams with administrative tasks related to pre‑construction, compliance, and project close‑out.
- Identify potential delays early and escalate issues to ensure projects remain on schedule.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of permitting workflows, documentation standards, and internal processes.
Qualifications & Education
- Experience preparing, submitting, and tracking building permit applications (residential construction preferred).
- Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively with clients, inspectors, and internal teams.
- Knowledge of municipal building codes, inspection processes, and regulatory requirements—or willingness to learn quickly.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Proficiency with office software (email, spreadsheets, document management systems) and accurate data entry skills.
- Prior experience in home building, construction administration, or municipal permitting is considered an asset.
- Ability to work on-site in Edmonton, AB and collaborate in a team‑oriented environment.
- Problem‑solving mindset with the ability to navigate complex permitting scenarios and maintain professionalism under pressure..
Pay: $18.00-$28.00 per hour
