The Role
Reporting to the Grading Superintendent, the Grading Foreman plays a key leadership role in the success of our field operations. You’ll be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing grading work while leading crews on site. This is a working foreman position — you’ll be expected to lead by example and stay involved in the day-to-day work.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise grading crews preparing gravel surfaces for asphalt paving
- Plan and coordinate manpower, equipment, and materials to meet schedule and production targets
- Operate and oversee equipment safely and efficiently
- Utilize Topcon GPS for setup, operation, and troubleshooting (asset)
- Train, mentor, and develop crew members
- Maintain positive relationships with clients, inspectors, and project stakeholders
- Coordinate with the Project Manager on inspections, documentation, and sign-offs
- Order materials and supplies using purchase orders
- Complete electronic timesheets accurately and on time
- Conduct regular safety meetings and ensure compliance with company and OH&S standards
- Report and participate in investigations of incidents, injuries, and near misses
- Promote a strong safety culture on site
- Assist other crews or departments as required
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in grading, specifically for asphalt preparation
- 3+ years’ experience as a Foreman
- Strong understanding of grading techniques, equipment use, and production planning
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and schedules
- Solid understanding of construction safety practices and procedures
- Experience with Topcon GPS considered an asset
- Knowledge of contracts, asset utilization, and job costing
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliable, safety-focused, and takes pride in quality work
Required Certifications
- CSTS 2020
- Ground Disturbance
- Valid First Aid
- Flagger Training
Conditions of Employment
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Clean driver’s abstract
- Ability to work long hours and weekends as required
- CSA-approved safety boots
Pay: $1.00-$2.00 per hour
