Job Overview
We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Volunteer Doulas to provide emotional, informational, and physical support to individuals during pregnancy, labour, postpartum and parenting periods. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of families while gaining valuable experience in maternal health and community service. The Volunteer Doula will work closely with clients to ensure a positive birthing and postpartum experience, offering comfort, information, encouragement, and advocacy support throughout the childbirth, postpartum and new parenting stages. Prior experience is not required, but a genuine desire to support families is highly valued.

- Additional training in related topis such as: bereavement doula, breastfeeding, etc.

Duties
- Provide emotional reassurance and continuous physical support during labour and birth.
- Offer informational guidance about the birthing process, comfort measures, and postpartum care.
- Assist clients in creating birth preference plans and support them to advocate for their preferences with medical staff.
- Support clients in relaxation techniques, breathing exercises, and positioning to facilitate labour progress.
- Maintain respectful communication with healthcare providers and family members.
- Document interactions and provide feedback to program coordinators to improve services.
- Attend applicable paid training sessions (birth doula, postpartum doula, breastfeeding support, family support doula, childbirth educator).
Requirements
- A compassionate attitude with a strong desire to support families through childbirth, postpartum and new parenting experiences.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends as needed for client support.
- Excellent communication skills, active listening, and empathy are essential.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, work within a defined scope of practice, and uphold professional boundaries.
- Prior experience in healthcare or community service is a plus but not mandatory; training will be provided.
- Must be at least 18 years old and able to commit to ongoing volunteer responsibilities.
- Criminal Records Check for the Vulnerable Sector (we will furnish the required organizational letter to obtain this).
- Additional Certification: Food Handlers, WHMIS, First Aid & CPR (We will cover the fees for these certificates if you do not already have these certificates).
