We handle every detail of the sanitation program, from on-site management of nightly cleaning crews to managing and maintaining all appropriate documentation necessary for internal and third-party audits (BRC, SQF, CFIA, USDA).
The Role
We are seeking a hardworking, dependable Sanitation Lead Hand to join our nightly cleaning and food safety team. In this role, you will lead by example on the facility floor, working alongside the sanitation crew while assisting the Sanitation Supervisor in coordinating nightly tasks. If you are mechanically inclined, have a strong work ethic, and are ready to take the next step in floor leadership, we want you on our team.
Key Responsibilities
- Work alongside nightly sanitation crews, setting the pace and ensuring all cleaning activities are executed safely, efficiently, and according to SSOPs.
- Assist the Supervisor with nightly line assignments, progress tracking, and shift handovers. Step in to lead the shift in the Supervisor’s absence.
- Coach and mentor new team members on proper chemical applications, equipment teardown/reassembly, and safety protocols.
- Take charge of complex equipment disassembly and reassembly, ensuring parts are cleaned properly without causing damage.
- Perform preliminary visual inspections of equipment and lines before formal pre-op testing to ensure zero residue or deficiencies.
- Actively monitor and enforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) usage among the crew.
What You Bring (Requirements)
- Proven experience working in food plant sanitation or food manufacturing.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of food processing equipment teardown and chemical applications.
- Solid understanding of basic GMPs and safety standards (WHMIS/OSHA).
- Ability and willingness to work the night shift reliably.
- Strong communication skills with a natural ability to guide and motivate peers.
- Mechanically inclined, highly punctual, and dependable.
- Access to reliable transportation.
