Job SummaryThe Accounting Technician supports the firm’s client service team by delivering accurate, timely, and compliant accounting services across a diverse client portfolio. Working closely with Accountants, Managers, and Partners, this role is responsible for day-to-day bookkeeping, account reconciliations, tax return preparation support, and routine statutory filings.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable managing recurring deadlines. Strong communication skills are essential, as the role involves regular interaction with clients, internal team members, and external stakeholders. This position is well suited to someone who enjoys hands-on accounting work, thrives in a professional services environment, and is looking to grow their technical skills within a collaborative firm.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and complete corporate and personal income tax returns in accordance with applicable legislation and firm standards
- Communicate professionally and effectively with clients, government agencies, external partners, and internal team members to support timely service delivery
- Perform accurate reconciliations of balance sheet and income statement accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies as required
- Complete routine bookkeeping and account analysis assignments in compliance with established accounting procedures and internal controls
- Prepare and submit recurring statutory filings, including HST, WSIB, and Employer Health Tax (EHT), ensuring accuracy and adherence to filing deadlines.
- Other duties as assigned by the Partners that are in line with this type of role
Qualifications
- Education: Completion of Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Certification: CPA designation or working towards it is preferred.
- Experience: 1-3 years of experience in bookkeeping and accounting or equivalent
Skills:
- Proficient in tax preparation software and accounting systems (Caseware and Taxprep is considered a strong asset).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite programs (Outlook, Excel and Word), Sage and Quickbooks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Work Environment
This role operates in a professional office environment with standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.
Work Hours
Full-time Position: Standard work hours are 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime during tax season.
