About the Role
Turning Point Recovery Society is in the process of opening an Indigenous-focused gathering place as part of our new supported recovery site in Squamish. We are seeking a compassionate, community-minded, and culturally grounded Indigenous Program Coordinator to lead the development, coordination, and oversight of the gathering space and its programming.
This role will help create a welcoming, culturally respectful, trauma-informed, and sobriety-focused space that promotes Indigenous cultural awareness, community connection, healing, and recovery support through programming, events, and activities.
The Indigenous Program Coordinator will work closely with the Director of Operations, Site Manager, staff, local Indigenous community members, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, service providers, and community partners to support meaningful and culturally relevant programming.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead the development, coordination, and day-to-day support of the Indigenous-focused gathering place.
· Plan, organize, and facilitate Indigenous cultural awareness activities, workshops, gatherings, and community-based events.
· Build and maintain respectful relationships with local Indigenous community members, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, cultural facilitators, service providers, and community partners.
· Support a culturally safe, inclusive, trauma-informed, and sobriety-focused environment.
· Coordinate the weekly schedule of programming, events, activities, and community engagement opportunities.
· Assist with identifying program needs, supplies, resources, guest facilitators, and partnership opportunities.
· Collaborate with the Site Manager and Director of Operations to ensure programming aligns with Turning Point’s mission, values, policies, and recovery-focused service model.
· Maintain accurate documentation related to programming, participation, activities, outcomes, and required program records.
· Support grant writing, funding applications, and program reporting where required.
· Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, community collaboration, and quality improvement activities.
· Maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and respectful communication at all times.
Qualifications
· Must reside in or near Squamish.
· Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous cultural practices, traditions, and community protocols is required.
· Strong connections to the local Indigenous community are considered a significant asset.
· Experience in program development, coordination, facilitation, or community-based programming is considered an asset.
· Preference will be given to candidates with experience in grant writing, funding applications, and/or program reporting.
· Experience working in social services, recovery, housing, non-profit, or community support settings is considered an asset.
· Strong communication, relationship-building, organization, and documentation skills.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
· Commitment to cultural safety, humility, trauma-informed practice, confidentiality, and respectful service delivery.
Preferred
· Experience working with Indigenous communities, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, cultural facilitators, and local service providers.
· Experience developing or supporting culturally relevant programming, workshops, circles, gatherings, or community events.
· Experience working with individuals impacted by substance use, homelessness, trauma, mental health challenges, or other complex barriers.
· Training in trauma-informed practice, cultural safety, crisis intervention, mental health, substance use, or recovery support.
· Valid BC driver’s licence and access to reliable transportation.
Schedule & Travel
· Part-time, 4 days per week.
· Schedule will include Saturdays and Sundays.
· In-person position based in Squamish, BC.
· Local community-based work, meetings, events, and partnership engagement may be required.
· Work will take place in a recovery-focused environment and may include exposure to sensitive social and health-related circumstances.
