POSITION TITLE: Mental Health and Wellness Education Facilitator
REPORTS TO: Education Supervisor
Scope of the Position:
The Mental Health and Wellness Education Facilitator will deliver programs and services to individuals experiencing mental health concerns, family members/caregivers, and the general community. They will provide support and education through support groups, classes, workshops and courses utilizing a recovery focused peer and person-centered approach in all service delivery practices.
All positions within our Mental Health and Wellness education Program function within a peer support and recovery framework. Lived experience as a person with mental health concerns or as a supporter of persons with mental health concerns is highly valued in this position.
The Mental Health and Wellness Education Program operates during daytime, evening, and weekend hours.
Knowledge Required by the Position
- Knowledge of mental health recovery process
- Knowledge and skill to facilitate and engage in basic problem-solving strategies to support individual clients in self-directed recovery.
- Can demonstrate compassion and open to understanding the beliefs and values of others
- Skill to use community resources necessary for independent living and ability introduce resources to other individuals.
- Understanding of issues facing Central Albertans and how that can affect mental wellness

Key Responsibility: Program Delivery
- The MHWEF will provide information to community agencies, groups, or individuals on topics related to mental health and mental wellness.
- The MHWEF will facilitate the delivery of educational courses and support groups, with training.
- The MHWEF will ensure proper preparation is completed prior to the delivery of each group/session/course to ensure best practice in service delivery.
- The MHWEF will also provide clean-up after each group/session/course and return the location to its previous condition.
- The MHWEF will provide support and education to all members of each group with a positive and compassionate demeanor.
Key Responsibility: Planning and Evaluation
- The MHWEF will utilize any evaluation tools required for all mental health and wellness education programming.
Key Responsibility: Funding Submissions, Data Base and Reporting
- The MHWEF will submit all data collection to the Mental Health and Wellness Education Supervisor for summary.
- The MHWEF will maintain records of attendance.
- The MHWEF will assist with other duties as assigned, to support the Mental Health and Wellness Education Program and the needs of the individuals accessing services.
Qualifications
The MHWEF will have one or more of the following
- Lived Experience relating to mental health as an individual or as a family member
- A certificate, diploma, or degree in social services
- Prior experience in the mental health field as an educator or facilitator
- Experience delivering/certification in ASIST, WRAP, Living Life to the Full, other relevant programs.
