Job Description:
The North Bay Museum is currently seeking applicants for a one year Community Event/Program Coordinator. Under the direction of the Director/Curator and Museum Coordinator, the intern will assist with updating and running museum programming (including online and outreach programming) while supporting museum operations.
Programming Objectives:
Enhance museum tourism appeal by:
- Assisting with updating marketing materials connected to North Bay Museum education programs
- Monitoring the impact of new programs
- Updating museum marketing materials and website
Enhance/support educational programming by:
- Running museum and downtown tours to enhance the museum experience for visitors
- Running and developing educational programs, materials, and camps
Enhance museum outreach programming by:
- Participating in community events (including volunteer fairs, holidays, etc.)
- Creating programming kits for community outreach
Enhance museum exhibits by:
- Assisting the Director/Curator with installation of museum exhibits
Other Duties:
The intern will also support the Director/Curator and Museum Coordinator with other areas of museum operation including retail and museum collections work. Duties will include:
- Working in the museum gift shop
- Entering data into the museum’s collection database
- Digitization of archival materials
Desired Qualifications:
- Degree in Education, Museum Studies, or History preferred. Applicants with any degree will be considered when paired with relevant experience
- Intercultural and visual communication skills
- Experience working with the public and running programming preferred
- Experience with classroom management and making lesson plans based on the Ontario curriculum an asset
- Experience with event planning and marketing an asset
- Experience (or comfort) working with adults ages 25-45
- English/French bilingualism is an asset
- Experience working in a museum setting and/or conducting historical research is an asset
Salary: $19.00/ Hour with a 37.5 hour work week
This position will be available subject to funding by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation. Applicants must meet the following conditions in order to be considered for employment:
- Candidate must be a new entrant into the workforce, are transitioning to a new career, or the unemployed or underemployed who are entering a new field.
- Candidate must have not previously participated in an NOHFC funded internship in the 2020 Mandate.
- Candidate must be 18 years of age or older.
- Candidate must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Once hired, the candidate must reside in the Northern Ontario community in which they are employed.
