Job Title: Automotive Collision Repair Prep Technician
Job Summary:
The Automotive Collision Repair Prep Technician is responsible for preparing vehicles for collision repair by ensuring they are clean, free of contaminants, and properly prepped for detailed body work. This role involves hands-on mechanical and cosmetic preparation tasks, including small dent pulling and repair, application of body filler and fiberglass (or similar products), sanding and prepping panels, and applying primer before painting. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
Vehicle Preparation:
- Remove damaged parts, trim, and components as required.
- Clean and decontaminate vehicles to remove dirt, grease, and contaminants.
- Mask and protect unaffected areas to prevent additional damage during repairs.
Repair and Prepping Work:
- Perform small dent pulling and repair to restore vehicle panels.
- Apply body filler and fiberglass (or similar products) to repair damaged areas.
- Sand and prep panels thoroughly to ensure proper adhesion of subsequent coatings.
- Apply primer to panels to create a smooth, uniform surface ready for painting.
- Assist in the disassembly and reassembly of vehicle parts as necessary.
Quality Control:
- Conduct detailed inspections of vehicles before and after preparation to ensure readiness for repair.
- Identify and report any additional issues or damages that may require further attention.
Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety protocols and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace to minimize risks.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in automotive repair is an advantage.
- Prior experience in automotive or collision repair settings, including hands-on work with dent repair, body filler application, fiberglass repair, panel preparation, and primer application.
Skills:
- Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with automotive tools and equipment.
- Proficiency in small dent repair, body filler and fiberglass application, panel sanding, and primer application.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Good physical stamina with the ability to lift heavy objects and work on your feet for extended periods.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
