Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Travelift Operator/Equipment Operator/Labour to join our Marina and Boatyard team.
The Travelift Operator/Equipment Operator/Labour is responsible for operating the travelift to move boats in and out of storage and the water in a safe and efficient manner.
The Travelift Operator/Equipment Operator/Labour operates forklifts, move blocks and boat stands etc.
In addition, the Travelift Operator/Equipment Operator/Labourr perform boatyard work such as cleaning and pressure washing.
Responsibilities
- Operates travelift and other Marina equipment in a safe and efficient manner with precision and safety.
- Assists boat owners, onsite trades and guests with the haul out, launching and storage of various types and sizes of vessels.
- Ensures keel blocks, boat stands and support blocks are securely placed under vessels in accordance with the size of the vessel.
- Maintains a high standard of safety at all times ensuring surrounding and potential hazards are always taken into consideration (e.g. overhead hydro lines).
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance checks on all machinery to ensure optimal performance.
- Ensures all equipment/machinery, yard areas, buildings, docks and piers are in a clean, safe and well-maintained condition. Reports deficiencies to the Foreman or General Manager.
- Communicates with yard staff, boat owners, customers, and trades in an effective and professional manner to ensure the safe movement of vessels on land and in the water.
- Initiates or assists with storm, fire, first aid, freezing weather and pollution spill procedures.
- Works closely with Boatyard Foreman and other boatyard workers.
- Assumes other duties as assigned or required, including Boatyard Foreman responsibilities in their absence.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe work environment for yourself and team members.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment usage and maintenance activities.
Experience
- Well versed in marina, boatyard and equipment operations and regular and preventative maintenance required for safe and efficient operation of machinery and equipment.
- Experience with lift points, weight distribution, and correct blocking procedures, as well as rigging.
- Proven experience operating heavy equipment is an asset.
- Mechanical knowledge related to heavy equipment maintenance and troubleshooting is an asset.
- Prior work in construction or related industries involving heavy equipment operation is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively assist and manage boat owners, workers, and coordinate activities and processes.
- Effective communication, interpersonal and customer service skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to assess and navigate various situations, be solution focused and remain calm during heightened situations.
- Ability to multi-task, manage priorities and adapt to changing needs as required.
- Knowledge of and ability to assist with storm, fire, first aid, freezing weather and pollution spill procedures.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively to contribute to the company’s success.
- Knowledge of all applicable WorkSafe BC rules and regulations.
- Physically fit and able to lift and/or maneuver heavy objects.
- Availability to work 40 flexible hours per week including weekends as required, and to be on call for all emergencies.
Pay: $28.00-$35.00 per hour
