Summary
You will build, scale, and lead our HR department from the ground up while enforcing strict regulatory alignment across our Saskatchewan operations. This dual-focus role requires establishing all fundamental HR infrastructure while ensuring absolute compliance with the federal Cannabis Act and Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) frameworks. as well as all employment laws applicable in the province of Saskatchewan.
Key Responsibilities
1. HR Infrastructure & Department Building
- Framework Design: Create and implement the organization's foundational HR strategy, employee handbooks, and operational workflows from scratch.
- Knowledge Retention Framework: Create a framework of systems and testing to track retention knowledge of policy and process retention to ensure that the company is compliant with all federal and provincial cannabis regulatory laws.
- Talent Acquisition: Build scalable recruitment pipelines, structured onboarding programs, and competitive compensation bands.
- Performance Systems: Establish the company's initial performance management, feedback, and employee retention frameworks.
2. Cannabis Compliance & Safety
- Mandatory Training: Verify all staff complete the CannaSell SK program before working. Create training modules for staff to be completed every 6 months to ensure retention of all CannaSell learnings.
- Audit Readiness: Build internal audit protocols for inventory reporting, sales tracking, and age-verification systems to ensure zero SLGA infractions.
- Impairment Policies: Draft clear, legally compliant "fit for duty" and substance policies tailored to the Saskatchewan cannabis workplace.
- OHS & Licensing: Set up Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) committees and manage all employee background checks and security clearances.
3. Strategic Leadership
- Culture Setting: Define and foster early-stage company culture, ensuring a safe, diverse, and anti-harassment work environment.
- Regulatory Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for provincial inspectors, auditors, and legal counsel.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of HR experience, with proven success building an HR department or function from scratch.
- Deep knowledge of the Saskatchewan Employment Act, OHS regulations, and Canadian cannabis laws.
- Human Resources diploma/degree; CPHR designation is a strong asset.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to balance high-level strategy with hands-on administrative execution.
