EMBERS Staffing is looking for a certified Construction Safety Officer with Advanced First Aid to provide safety leadership at a site in Nanaimo. This is a critical role — you will be the person workers and supervisors look to for guidance, compliance oversight, and emergency response when it matters most.
It is a long term role with one of our major construction clients.
What You'll Be Doing
- Providing health and safety leadership on site, ensuring all workers and visitors understand and follow safe work practices
- Conducting regular workplace inspections to identify hazards related to equipment, materials, and production processes before they result in incidents
- Monitoring site safety performance, tracking issues and near-misses, maintaining accurate incident records, and recommending corrective actions
- Developing, implementing, and evaluating site-specific health and safety programs and strategies
- Staying current with WorkSafeBC regulations and all applicable occupational health and safety legislation, ensuring the site remains compliant at all times
- Reviewing and approving safety equipment purchases to ensure all gear meets regulatory and site standards
- Delivering site orientations to new workers and visitors — setting the tone for safety culture from day one
- Taking immediate and appropriate action to correct unsafe acts or conditions, with the authority and confidence to stop work when necessary
- Providing OFA Level 3 first aid services to all personnel on site, including emergency response and proper documentation of all treatments
What You Need
- Valid OFA Level 3 or Advanced First Aid Ticket (required — applications without this cannot be considered)
- Construction Safety Officer (CSO) Certification (required)
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Construction Safety Officer (required)
- Thorough working knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and BC occupational health and safety legislation
- Strong leadership presence — you can communicate safety expectations clearly, hold people accountable, and earn the respect of workers and site supervisors alike
- Highly organized with the ability to manage records, documentation, and reporting accurately and consistently
- Calm and decisive under pressure, particularly in emergency or high-risk situations
