Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Electrical Drafter / Designer to join our engineering team. In this role you will produce the drawing packages behind medium- and high-voltage power systems — substations, switchgear, distribution and protection & control — translating complex electrical concepts into clear, accurate schematics, layouts, and specifications. You'll work closely with engineers, fabrication, procurement, and clients, and you'll see your drawings through from concept to field verification. It's an opportunity to contribute to substantial infrastructure projects while deepening your expertise in MV/HV design drafting. The suggested pay range is commensurate with experience.
Duties
- Develop electrical single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring and interconnection drawings, panel and equipment layouts, site plans, and grounding plans in AutoCAD.
- Perform MV to HV design drafting for substation, switchgear, distribution, and protection & control scopes.
- Prepare material specifications, bills of material, and material take-offs directly from drawings.
- Draft control and automation documentation — PLC I/O and terminal schedules, control schematics, and communication/network architecture drawings.
- Compile, check, and issue complete drawing packages and specification documents; maintain revision control and as-built documentation.
- Collaborate with electrical engineers and project managers to produce design documents aligned with project specifications and applicable codes.
- Conduct site visits for field verification, as-built markups, and dimensional and field data collection.
- Coordinate with panel fabrication, procurement, and other disciplines to ensure constructibility and design integrity.
- Contribute to quality assurance by reviewing drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with industry standards.
Requirements
- Several years of proven electrical drafting or design experience in an engineering, utility, or industrial environment.
- Demonstrated MV to HV design drafting experience.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential.
- Strong command of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system layout development.
- Experience developing material specifications and performing material take-offs.
- Working understanding of PLC, automation, and industrial communication systems — enough to draft control and comms documentation accurately.
- Ability to interpret engineering, architectural, and mechanical drawings and coordinate across disciplines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and PDF editors.
- Willing and able to travel for site visits and field work.
Assets
- 3D drafting knowledge (Inventor, Revit, Plant 3D, MicroStation, SolidWorks, or similar).
- Hands-on background in control panel fabrication or shop experience.
- Working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and relevant CSA standards.
- Experience with Bluebeam or Navisworks for markups, revision coordination, and clash detection.

Education
Technologist Diploma in Drafting or Electrical Engineering Technology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pay: $30.00-$50.00 per hour
