About the Role
The Carpenter is responsible for supporting the construction, finishing, and repair of new homes, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard of quality. The role involves performing a variety of carpentry and deficiency-correction tasks while working collaboratively with site teams and trades to deliver customer-ready homes.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform residential carpentry, finishing, repair, and maintenance work throughout various stages of home construction.
- Install, repair, and adjust doors, windows, frames, trim, hardware, closets, flooring, drywall, and other building components.
- Complete interior and exterior deficiency repairs to ensure homes meet quality standards.
- Prepare homes for trades, inspections, Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDI), and customer occupancy.
- Identify construction deficiencies, recommend solutions, and complete repairs as required.
- Patch, sand, tape, caulk, and complete finishing work to achieve a high-quality final product.
- Repair or replace damaged building materials, components, and structural elements using hand and power tools.
- Build and install temporary structures, safety railings, barriers, and other site requirements.
- Conduct quality-control inspections and review completed trade work, reporting concerns to site leadership.
- Complete checklists and documentation to ensure accurate and thorough completion of assigned work.
- Safely operate, maintain, and store carpentry tools, equipment, and materials.
- Collaborate with Site Superintendents, Foremen, trades, and service personnel to meet construction schedules and quality expectations.
- Assist with ordering, organizing, and managing materials and supplies as required.
- Support general construction activities and perform minor tasks of other trades where certification is not required.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and professional work environment in accordance with company safety standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Carpentry apprenticeship certification or Red Seal designation considered an asset.
- Experience in residential construction, including rough and finishing carpentry, preferably within a high-volume homebuilding environment.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, tools, and finishing techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications, and identify discrepancies or deficiencies.
- Proven ability to diagnose construction deficiencies and complete appropriate repairs.
- Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices.
- Knowledge of imperial and metric measurement systems and strong mathematical aptitude.
- Demonstrated problem-solving, critical thinking, and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Physical ability to perform demanding construction work, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 40 lbs on a regular basis.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing schedules and project demands.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines independently.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills when interacting with colleagues, trades, supervisors, and homeowners.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and willing to learn and develop new skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a construction team.
- Must have access to a personal vehicle and a valid driver's licence in good standing.
Physical/Sensory Effort and Work Environment
- Worksite is loud and fast-paced residential construction environment year-round, both indoors and outdoors, and in varying weather conditions.
- Physical ability required to perform construction-related duties, including extended periods of walking, standing, climbing, bending, and lifting.
- Overtime may be required as necessary to meet construction schedules and project requirements.
