laner Technician / Moulder
Stein Lumber – Salmon Arm, BC
Stein Lumber is seeking an experienced and motivated Planer Technician / Moulder Operator to join our manufacturing team in Salmon Arm, BC. We are looking for a self-motivated individual with strong mechanical aptitude, excellent troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Set up, adjust, and optimize planer and moulder equipment according to production schedules and product specifications.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and correct machine defects and lumber quality issues.
- Sharpen planer knives and prepare spare cutter heads for production.
- Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections within the planer department.
- Identify equipment issues and carry out repairs to minimize downtime.
- Operate and feed the planer as required during breaks, lunch coverage, and production needs.
- Monitor product quality and ensure lumber meets customer and company specifications.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, including cleanup following production runs.
- Assist with other maintenance, production, and operational tasks as required to support mill operations.
Qualifications
- Minimum three years of experience in a lumber manufacturing environment as a Planer Technician, Planerman, Moulder Operator, or similar role.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with proven troubleshooting and repair abilities.
- Experience with Stetson-Ross planers is considered a strong asset.
- Solid understanding of lumber manufacturing processes and quality requirements.
- Ability to identify and correct planer defects and production issues.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain productivity with minimal supervision.
- Positive attitude and professional approach to working with coworkers and management.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb stairs, and perform repetitive movements throughout the shift.
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working in an industrial manufacturing environment.
