We are seeking a reliable and compassionate Mobile Veterinary Assistant to support a mobile veterinary service providing in-home and on-site care throughout the windsor essex area. The ideal candidate is comfortable working directly with small animals( dogs and cats) in non-clinic environments and is familiar with local rural and residential routes.
Candidates who are based in or familiar with the windsor- essex area are strongly preferred due to travel requirements and scheduling efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
-Safely and calmly restrain and handle small animals during examinations, vaccinations, and minor procedures
-Assist the veterinarian during end-of-life care and humane euthanasia appointments, providing calm, respectful, and compassionate support to both patients and clients
-Prepare and set up all necessary medical supplies, instruments, and medications before each visit
-Support the veterinarian during routine procedures such as vaccinations, blood collection, microchipping, and wellness exam.
-*Monitor and help manage animal stress levels using low-stress handling techniques*
-Maintain strict cleanliness, sanitation, and sterilization of all equipment between appointments
-Assist with accurate record keeping, including patient notes, vaccine records, and treatment details
-Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients in their homes regarding basic instructions and aftercare
-Help organize, restock, and maintain the mobile clinic vehicle and medical inventory
-Ensure smooth transition between appointments, including packing/unpacking equipment efficiently
-Support the veterinarian in maintaining a safe, organized, and calm environment in all mobile settings
Requirements:
- Experience with animals (vet clinic, shelter, grooming, farm work, or similar preferred)
- Comfortable working in a mobile/field-based environment (homes, barns, outdoor settings)
- Ability to lift and safely handle animals of various sizes
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Valid driver’s licence preferred.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently in the field
- Familiarity with windsor essex and rural areas is an asset
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous veterinary assistant or animal care experience
- Fear-Free handling or low-stress animal handling experience
- Experience working with anxious or aggressive animals
- Knowledge of basic veterinary procedures (vaccinations, restraint, cleaning prep)
Work Environment:
- Mobile work(2-3 appointments a day)
- Travel between appointments throughout windsor essex and surrounding rural areas
- Exposure to a variety of small animals and environments daily
- Hours are based on appointments booked.
Compensation:
Competitive, based on experience
Pay: $17.50-$22.00 per hour
