We are looking to build out our Vancouver team and are seeking a motivated Junior Customs Rater to join our growing operations. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career who is looking to develop within the customs and international trade industry.
About the Role
The Junior Customs Rater is responsible for processing import shipments, classifying goods using Harmonized System (HS) codes, and ensuring compliance with Canadian customs regulations. This role plays a key part in keeping freight moving efficiently while maintaining accuracy and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Classification & Rating
- Classify products accurately using HS codes
- Determine applicable tariff treatments, duties, and taxes
Documentation & Release
- Prepare and process customs entries and releases in a timely manner
- Utilize systems such as CADEX to facilitate shipment clearance
Compliance
- Ensure compliance with CBSA regulations and applicable government agencies (CFIA, NRCan, etc.)
- Maintain accurate records and documentation
Communication
- Act as a liaison between clients, carriers, and internal teams
- Resolve documentation discrepancies and provide updates on shipment status
Troubleshooting
- Investigate and resolve rejected entries or transmission errors
- Identify and correct data inconsistencies
Qualifications & Requirements
- Post-secondary education in International Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field preferred
- Introductory customs coursework or exposure to customs processes is considered an asset
- 0–2 years of experience in customs brokerage, freight forwarding, or a related field
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Additional Information
- This is an entry-level role with strong growth potential
- Customs Specialist (CCS) designation is not required, but some introductory education in customs is preferred.
- Ideal for candidates starting their career or currently in a junior role within the industry
Pay: $48,000.00-$52,000.00 per year
