Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled General Maintenance Assistant to join our dynamic facilities team. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the maintenance and operational needs of our manufacturing environment, ensuring that all equipment, systems, and facilities operate efficiently and safely. Responsibilities
- Perform routine electrical inspections, troubleshooting, and minor repairs throughout the warehouse and facility.
- Inspect and maintain warehouse lighting, emergency lighting, switches, outlets, and electrical fixtures.
- Troubleshoot basic electrical issues involving motors, control panels, sensors, switches, and electrical connections.
- Inspect freezer and cooler electrical control panels, alarms, temperature control systems, and related components; report abnormalities to qualified technicians.
- Assist with maintenance of conveyors, dock equipment, warehouse equipment, production equipment, and material-handling systems.
- Replace or repair approved light fixtures, bulbs, switches, receptacles, wiring connections, and other low-risk electrical components within their purview.
- Conduct routine inspections of electrical panels, disconnects, breakers, junction boxes, and equipment connections for visible damage or abnormal conditions.
- Identify and report electrical hazards, including exposed wiring, damaged cords, overheating, loose connections, water intrusion, and overloaded circuits.
- Respond to electrical maintenance work orders and breakdowns and prioritize urgent safety or operational issues.
- Perform basic preventive maintenance (PM) on electrical and facility equipment according to established schedules.
- Ensure electrical work is performed in accordance with company safety procedures, lockout/tagout (LOTO), WHMIS, and other applicable electrical safety requirements.
- Maintain a clean and organized maintenance area and properly store tools, electrical components, and maintenance materials.
- Immediately escalate electrical hazards, equipment failures, fire risks, or conditions requiring licensed electrical work to the Maintenance Manager or qualified electrician.
Requirements
- Prior experience in facilities maintenance within a food processing, manufacturing or industrial environment is preferred.
- Demonstrated skills in a maintenance setting.
- Proficiency with schematics, technical drawings, and troubleshooting electrical or mechanical systems.
- Excellent communication skills in English for effective teamwork and reporting.
