Terra Nova Medical Clinics is a physician-led, women-led primary care network operating multiple clinic locations across British Columbia. We opened twelve new clinics in the past year and we are continuing to grow. Our group supports over 130 physicians and nurse practitioners and more than 90 staff, delivering care to a large and growing patient community.
We are restructuring our accounting department to support this growth, separating billing, accounting, payroll, and analytics into clearly owned functions - and this role is the centrepiece of the new structure.
What you'll own:
You will be the certified accounting professional at the centre of our finance function, owning all accounting work that must be performed in Canada across our group of four related entities. You report directly to the CEO.
Core responsibilities:
- Own all Canada-restricted accounting work across four related entities in QuickBooks Online
- Own payroll for 90+ employees - payroll submission, ROEs, and CRA remittances (these legally remain in Canada; prep and reporting support is provided)
- Run month-end close and prepare monthly financial packages
- Review and coordinate the output of the Canadian and offshore support teams
- Oversee the semi-monthly provider payment cycle for 130+ physicians and nurse practitioners in coordination with the Billing Lead
- Manage bank and credit card reconciliations, AP, and AR
- Manage GST filings and routine compliance across all entities
- Coordinate with our external accounting firm on year-end compilations and corporate tax
- Prepare weekly cash flow reporting for the CEO
- Progressively assume the monthly controller review function as you demonstrate independent ownership
- Strengthen internal controls and improve processes as the group scales
Qualifications:
Must be a CPA designation (Canadian) in good standing.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including full-cycle accounting
- Multi-entity accounting experience — you have closed books across related companies and handled intercompany balances
- Payroll administration experience in a Canadian employment context
- Strong QuickBooks Online proficiency
- Advanced Excel skills - pivot tables, lookups, and structured worksheets are second nature
- Ability to work independently, prioritize across competing deadlines, and communicate clearly with non-accountants
Strong assets
- Healthcare, clinic, or professional-services accounting experience - MSP billing familiarity is a significant asset
- Experience reviewing and supervising the work of other accounting staff
- Experience working with remote or offshore accounting support teams
- Public practice background (compilations, reviews) at a CPA firm
- Power BI or dashboard reporting familiarity

PATH TO HEAD OF ACCOUNTING
This role is designed to become Head of Accounting - leading our full accounting department, including billing, payroll, analytics, and support staff, as Terra Nova continues to grow.
The promotion is milestone-based, not automatic, and the milestones are explicit: independent month-end close across all entities, accurate management of the provider payment cycle, effective supervision of the team, and successful assumption of the controller function. At the 12-month mark we formally review against these criteria. Meeting them earns the Head of Accounting title and a corresponding compensation review.
