Job Description
Position Overview: The Youth Outreach Prevention Specialist (Elementary & High School Stream) delivers school-based programming that supports youth ages 10-16 in building social-emotional skills, resilience, and positive decision-making. The role focuses on in-school workshops and early intervention strategies that promote healthy relationships, emotional regulation, and engagement in school communities.
Aligned with Northwest Youth United’s prevention framework, the Specialist works collaboratively with schools and community partners to provide targeted support to youth who may be at risk of disengagement, while fostering safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments. Through consistent presence and relationship-building, this role helps youth strengthen their sense of belonging, confidence, and connection to positive supports both within and beyond the school setting.
Report to: The Youth Outreach Prevention Specialist will be an employee of Northwest London Resource Centre (NWLRC). Day-to-Day supervision/consultation will be provided by the Youth Services Supervisor of Northwest London Resource Centre both formally and informally as determined by the project.
Qualifications: Social Service Worker Diploma, Child and Youth Worker, or education or work experience related to social services field of expertise. Extensive experience of over 3 years actively working in youth outreach and prevention programs is an asset.
Commitment: This is a full-time maternity leave contract position (37.5 hours per week), with a schedule designed to align with peak youth participation times. Core work hours will be Tuesday through Saturday to support program delivery during after-school and weekend periods. The start date will be July 6th, 2026 and the end date will be June 18th, 2027.
Wages: $25 per hour with benefits after 3-month probation period.
Responsibilities
Program Delivery & Youth Engagement
- Deliver weekly in-school workshops for elementary (ages 10–13) and high school (ages 14–16) students.
- Facilitate interactive sessions focused on:
- Conflict resolution and problem-solving
- Emotional regulation and self-awareness
- Teamwork and collaboration
- Healthy peer relationships and communication
- Adapt curriculum and facilitation methods to meet developmental needs of each age group.
- Use trauma-informed, strengths-based, and culturally responsive approaches.
Prevention & Mentorship
- Provide guidance and positive role modeling to youth at risk of violence, gang involvement, or school disengagement.
- Foster safe, inclusive environments that promote belonging and confidence.
- Identify early warning signs and work collaboratively with school staff and internal program teams to provide supports.
Collaboration & Program Integration
- Work closely with schools, guidance counsellors, and community partners to coordinate programming.
- Support monthly recreation therapy sessions by reinforcing emotional well-being concepts introduced in school.
- Participate in planning meetings and contribute to continuous program improvement.
Monitoring & Evaluation
- Track attendance, participation, and engagement data.
- Support pre- and post-program surveys and qualitative feedback collection.
- Contribute to internal monitoring and external evaluation
Qualifications
· Demonstrated experience delivering group-based workshops and structured youth programming.
· Strong understanding of youth development, prevention-based approaches, and risk factors associated with violence and gang involvement.
· Experience in program development, implementation, and continuous improvement.
· Proven ability to build and maintain positive relationships with youth, parents/caregivers, schools, community partners, and professionals.
· Demonstrated experience working with youth from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
· Knowledge of trauma-informed practice; Mental Health First Aid and/or Psychological First Aid certification considered an asset.
· Experience with report writing, data collection, maintaining program statistics, and supporting evaluation.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace (including Google Forms), and database/data entry systems.
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
· Valid Driver’s License with access to a reliable vehicle.
· Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
· Current CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
· Must have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally eligible to work in Canada.
