Position Summary
The Safety Support Specialist plays a hands-on role in supporting safety programs, client requirements, and internal compliance processes. This position is well suited for a detail-oriented individual looking to build foundational experience and technical competence within a structured safety organization. Reporting directly to the Safety Support Coordinator (with functional oversight from the National Safety Director), this role is responsible for executing defined safety support tasks, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring timely completion of safety-related documentation and follow-ups.
This is a high-impact leadership role requiring extensive experience in safety management, field operations, and regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions. Regular travel to worksites and company offices is expected.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute assigned day-to-day safety support and administrative tasks in accordance with established procedures and timelines.
- Assist with the collection, organization, and maintenance of safety documentation, training records, and certifications.
- Support the preparation and updating of client safety documentation, including RFQ and MSA safety-related data, under direction of the Coordinator.
- Assist in maintaining client safety prequalification portals (e.g., ISN, Avetta), ensuring information is accurate and current.
- Monitor safety documentation for completeness and compliance with OH&S requirements, internal standards, and client expectations.
- Create, update, and maintain forms, templates, and supporting materials for health and safety programs.
- Perform safety-related administrative duties, including filing, scanning, data entry, and document control.
- Review incident, inspection, and audit records for basic accuracy and completeness prior to escalation or reporting.
- Assist with tracking corrective actions and follow up with internal departments as directed.
- Support departmental logistics, including coordinating travel bookings and related arrangements when assigned.
- Handle confidential and sensitive information in a professional and ethical manner.
Qualifications & Experience
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe.
- Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to follow established processes and escalate issues appropriately.
- Comfortable working independently on assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Basic technical writing skills or interest in program and document development.
Requirements
- Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field from an accredited institution is an asset
- NCSO / HSA designation is an asset.
- Working knowledge of OH&S legislation, WCB regulations, or traffic control operations is an asset.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel.
- Willingness to work in office, field, and active job site environments
