To be eligible for this position, you must meet the participant requirements under the Canada Summer Jobs Agreement with as outlined:
Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
What you'll get to do:
- Conduct needs assessments and applied research to identify food security challenges affecting newcomers, including key barriers and gaps in existing supports
- Identify community resources and potential partnerships to enhance food access and nutrition supports for isolated and vulnerable newcomers
- Support linkages between newcomers and food related community resources
- Strengthen referral pathways through collaboration with community organizations and service providers
- Work closely with settlement staff to plan and deliver two information sessions
- Gather, document, and assist in analyzing participant evaluations and feedto inform program improvements
- Prepare summaries findings to support reporting and future program planning
What you need to know/have:
· Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a post-secondary program in Social Services or a related field
- Experience in community development, research, settlement services, or social services considered as an asset
- Knowledge of food security issues and barriers faced by newcomers and marginalized communities
- Strong research, data collection, and analytical skills
- Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with community partners
- Good communication and facilitation skills
- Comfortable using digital tools to support information sharing and service access
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Good organizational and teamwork skills
- Ability to follow safety procedures and organizational policies
Location: 3660 Hurontario St, 7th Fl, Mississauga, ON L5B 3C4
Hours: 35 per week, occasional weekends and evenings may be required.
Compensation: $17.60 per hour
