Since 1978, Metric Contracting Services Corporation has been an industry leader in excavating, grading, and site preparation, and has undertaken a wide variety of heavy civil projects throughout Southern Ontario. Working primarily for clients in the public sector, Metric seeks out projects which are technically challenging and those which are essential for progressing infrastructure in Ontario. Some noteworthy projects include the reconstruction of a dam on the Trent-Severn Waterway, the rehabilitation of Windermere Basin in Hamilton, and enabling works for the Eglinton LRT.
We are currently offering a position of a Construction Project Coordinator who will be working in a small team headed by one of our Project Managers. A typical week includes a balance of on-site and office work, which will be determined in accordance with the strengths of the successful candidate. Some current key projects are located in Vaughan, King City and Mississauga. Due to the various site locations, applicants are required to have a Valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle. Major Responsibilities:
- Provide logistical and technical expertise in support of infrastructure construction projects
- Track quantities using GPS surveying, as required
- Track actual production (i.e. labour and equipment hours)
- Participate in project, field, and site meetings and prepare meeting minutess
- Conduct deficiency walks and update deficiency logs under supervision of the QC Coordinator
- Review and assess contract specifications and drawings
- Update field drawings and produce as-builts
- Predict and solve engineering/operational challenges as they arise
- Recommend appropriate cost control measures according to the needs of individual projects
- Prepare change orders and technical proposals
- Assist with procurement (i.e. order materials, correspond with subtrades/suppliers, invoicing, etc.)
- Create and execute detailed construction timelines and schedules
- Liaise with our suppliers, subcontractors, and clients towards the successful completion of our construction operations
- Confirm calculations, surveys, and other technical documents requiring accuracy and completeness of data; Use of Civil3D as required
- Complete pre-qualifications, proposals, bids, takeoffs, and tenders to acquire new projects
- Other assigned duties and tasks, as required
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline from a North American institution. Other technical but related degrees from a North American institution will also be considered.
- Must be authorized to work in Canada for any employer
- Experience delivering projects of varying size and complexity
- Adept interpersonal skills, particularly in teamwork and client services
- Highly proficient with the Microsoft Suite of Office applications including OneDrive/SharePoint, Adobe PDF and Bluebeam.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, codes, and best practices relating to construction
- Possession of a valid ‘G’ class driving license and the ability to travel to various locations throughout Ontario
- Working knowledge of various design software (e.g. Civil 3D, AutoCad, GIS) is an asset
- Practical experience on a construction site or around heavy equipment is an asset
- An E.I.T. or P. Eng. designation administered by Professional Engineers Ontario is an asset
- Valid Driver’s License is required. Please identify whether you have a driver’s license in your resume.
- Access to a personal vehicle is an asset.
- Candidates must have a strong desire to work in heavy civil construction.
- Previous experience working on large infrastructure projects (Metrolinx, MTO, etc) is considered an asset. Please highlight this experience in your cover letter.
