Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Backend Engineer to design, develop, deploy, and operate scalable cloud-native backend services, APIs, integrations, orchestration layers, and business capabilities.
The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in backend technologies such as Java, Python, .NET, Node.js, or TypeScript, along with experience in API-first development, microservices, event-driven architecture, distributed systems, AWS, CI/CD, and automated testing.
Experience with Ontology, Knowledge Graphs, Semantic Models, Generative AI, LLMs, RAG, or AI Agent development is highly preferred.
In this role, you will build secure and resilient backend services while leveraging AI coding agents and engineering copilots to accelerate software development, API integration, testing, and delivery. You will be responsible for ensuring that AI-assisted development outputs meet enterprise standards for quality, security, scalability, reliability, and production readiness.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and operate cloud-native backend services and APIs.
- Build business logic, domain services, orchestration layers, workflows, and service composition.
- Design and implement REST APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
- Develop integrations with enterprise applications, third-party platforms, data services, pricing/underwriting systems, and AI/agent services.
- Implement event-driven architecture and asynchronous processing patterns.
- Develop automated unit, integration, contract, regression, and performance tests.
- Contribute to API standards, reusable engineering patterns, golden paths, and development best practices.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation.
- Work with AWS cloud services, containers, Infrastructure as Code, and automated deployment practices.
- Implement secure application practices including authentication, authorization, secrets management, and API security.
- Monitor and support production services, including incident response, troubleshooting, defect remediation, and performance optimization.
- Collaborate with Business Analysts, Product Owners, Architects, and other engineering teams to translate business requirements into technically executable solutions.
- Use AI coding agents and engineering copilots to accelerate development while maintaining strong code review, testing, security, and quality practices.
- Participate in architecture and code reviews and continuously improve system reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
AI & Ontology Responsibilities
- Design and maintain ontologies, taxonomies, business vocabularies, semantic models, and concept relationships across business domains.
- Develop knowledge graphs, entity relationships, metadata structures, and semantic mappings.
- Build semantic structures that enable AI agents and enterprise systems to understand and reason across business concepts.
- Develop Generative AI and LLM-powered applications and backend services.
- Design and implement Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines and semantic search capabilities.
- Develop AI agent orchestration, prompt strategies, workflows, tool integrations, and reusable AI components.
- Support AI evaluation frameworks to measure accuracy, relevance, quality, and performance.
- Integrate AI capabilities with enterprise APIs, databases, data platforms, and business workflows.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong backend development experience with one or more of:
- Java
- Python
- .NET
- Node.js
- TypeScript
- or equivalent enterprise technologies.
- Strong experience with API-first development and REST APIs.
- Experience designing and developing microservices and distributed systems.
- Strong understanding of event-driven architecture and service orchestration.
- Experience with enterprise system and third-party API integrations.
- Hands-on experience with AWS or another major cloud platform.
- Experience with Docker / containers and CI/CD pipelines.
- Understanding of Infrastructure as Code and automated deployment.
- Experience developing automated unit, integration, and contract tests.
- Experience with production monitoring, observability, troubleshooting, and incident resolution.
- Strong understanding of software engineering best practices and SDLC.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Ontology modeling and taxonomy development.
- Experience building or working with Knowledge Graphs.
- Experience with semantic technologies, metadata models, and semantic search.
- Experience developing Generative AI / LLM applications.
- Experience with RAG architecture and vector databases.
- Experience with AI agents and agent orchestration frameworks.
- Experience with prompt engineering and LLM evaluation.
- Experience with Python-based AI/ML frameworks.
- Experience integrating AI capabilities with enterprise applications and APIs.
- Familiarity with AI coding agents and engineering copilots, such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or similar tools.
- Experience working in an AI-assisted / agentic software delivery environment.
Pay: $80.00-$100.00 per hour
