Overview
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Skidder Operator to join our team as a Fawcett Cannon operator. The current requirement is someone able to work in the Merritt, BC area.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong mechanical aptitude, knowledge of wildfire activity, and a passion for working outdoors in a physically demanding environment.
Duties
- Operate skidder (aka The Fawcett Cannon) according to requirements in wildfire fighting, adhering to safety protocols and operational standards
- Conduct routine maintenance and inspections of equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety
- Collaborate with ground crews and other operators to coordinate wildfire attack
- Maintain detailed logs of daily operations, equipment usage, and maintenance activities
- Support landscape maintenance efforts around work sites to minimize environmental impact
Experience
- Proven experience operating heavy equipment such as skidders, bulldozers, or similar machinery in forestry settings
- Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot and perform basic repairs on equipment
- Knowledge of safety procedures related to heavy equipment operation and forestry work environments
- Ability to perform routine maintenance tasks and ensure equipment remains in excellent working condition
