Crane Operator / Rebar Machine Operator

Pay Range: $21.34 – $23.34 per hour
About the Role
Our client is seeking a reliable, safety-conscious Crane Operator / Rebar Machine Operator to join their production team in Kitchener. This role involves operating overhead crane equipment to safely move and position rebar, as well as operating machinery used to cut, shear, bend, and shape rebar according to customer specifications.
Candidates with previous crane operating experience and/or rebar experience are encouraged to apply. Training and certification opportunities may be available for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate overhead crane equipment to lift, move, and position rebar and steel materials.
- Operate rebar processing machinery used to shear, cut, bend, and shape rebar to specified lengths and dimensions.
- Read and follow production orders, drawings, tags, and specifications to ensure the correct rebar size, grade, quantity, and shape are produced.
- Use proper rigging and lifting techniques when handling rebar and other steel materials.
- Manually lift, load, unload, and position rebar weighing up to 50 lbs as required.
- Untangle, organize, and prepare rebar for processing and production.
- Perform daily pre-use inspections of cranes, machinery, and equipment.
- Complete required hazard assessments and report equipment issues or safety concerns immediately.
- Follow all PPE requirements and established safe work practices.
- Never bypass machine guards, safety devices, or other protective equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Follow proper equipment shutdown and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Comply with all company Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For
- Previous Crane Operator experience is required or strongly preferred.
- Experience working with rebar, steel, or construction/manufacturing materials is an asset.
- 1–2 years of manufacturing, steel fabrication, or production experience preferred.
- Ability to safely operate industrial machinery and learn rebar processing equipment.
- Basic math, measurement, and ability to read production specifications.
- Ability to safely lift and move materials up to 50 lbs repeatedly.
- Comfortable working in a production environment and varying environmental conditions, including possible outdoor exposure.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliable, safety-focused, and detail-oriented.
- Ability to follow instructions and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
